Keith must've restored them during the night - they definitely weren't there yesterday.

@David, that plug issue is a bit confusing... as far as I understand, a missing blind plug really cuts out the output signal, even if the seller was using active speakers connected to the Powerlink sockets instead of passive speakers. Perhaps he's just trying to cover up after retaining it for his own use. But the plug really is just a glorified pair of paper clips, so you're not missing much as long as it works

Oops I meant to say Beolink 7000 in my earlier post to this thread, my mistake though has meant your collective knowledge has revealed the presence of a real MCP 7000! In black no less, just like my 7000 system.

My seller still insists he never had a cap on the line in/out port and the Beomaster 7000 worked for him, am I going mad or is it true that unless there was a cap on that port then the Beomaster 7000 wouldn't pass any signal to the power amp inside it?

Yes the MCP 7000 DOES exist. One of our members (I forget who) has one & posted a photo of it some time back. It is basically a MCP 6500 with a black anodised drop down flap.

EDIT - Mika just beat me to it. Great minds think alike eh?

Also a message to David the OP. If you programme any timer functions with a MCP 5500 you MUST use it to also deprogramme them. You cannot cancel them with another Beomaster 7000 compatible remote such as a Beolink 5000 or Beolink 7000. The same applies vice versa.

Apparently a small batch was made - in black - to match the black Beosystem 7000. One of the members has one and we even had pictures, but they are probably gone now.

I do remember we shouldn't be discussing it since it puts Lee into fits

Does a MCP7000 really exist?

The reason for asking is that I have personally never seen one when doing a search online for B&O. Being an addict I have done alot of those.

As far as I know the Beosystem 6500 came out in 1990 with the MCP6500 first. Then the Beolink 7000 came out with the Beosystem 6500 in 1991 and the MCP6500 got dropped from the Beosystem 6500. In 1992 the Beosystem 7000 comes out with the Beolink 7000 as the main remote.

Some Beosystem 6500 do come up for sale without the MCP6500 mine included and I have studied the B&O brochures too.

It will be almost definite that you need new belts - martin (Dillen on site) can supply these and they come with instructions on how to fit them. The service manuals are much less helpful!

Yes, the MCP5500 manual is there (not a very good scan, but quite readable). You have to do a little "applied reading" when mixing and matching the systems, since the different Beomasters apparently have small differences in their operation - the manual obviously discusses it in the context of a Beosystem 5500. 5500/6500/7000 are all very similar though, so the Beosystem 6500 user manual will mostly apply to your case.

The manuals alone are well worth the membership fee. You'll also find the service manuals for most of your units in case you want to attempt repairing something yourself. Not specifically for Beocord 7000 though, but our resident experts will try and help you whether you decide to upgrade or not. Usually you will only need new belts.

Next problem is the non functioning tape drive mechanism.....I knew about that when I bid for it, but it would be nice to try and fix it.

Do the manuals on this site have details like this tuning example, as the ones I found so far only contain 10-14 pages and have very little details for the many functions of the master control units. If there is a user guide for the MCP 5500 specifically I'll upgrade my membership and get it.

Welcome to forum!

To tune to a specific frequency, press "goto" and then input the frequency. After that, give the Beomaster a little time to actually tune before getting anxious and pressing something else. Input all digits, i.e 104 MHz needs to be keyed in as 1040.
To search, first press "goto" and then use "< step" or "step >" (no need to press turn every time if you want to search further)
To switch between AM and FM, "goto" + "turn" (again, wait a bit until the MCP shows the new range)
To store the current station to a preset, "preset" + <preset number> + "store"

Don't bother looking for a MCP7000, it is very rare and technically just the same as your 5500. If you want an MCP that matches your Beosystem cosmetically (i.e polished aluminum instead of brushed), a MCP6500 will do.

A Beolink 7000 would be easier for programming, but they are expensive and unreliable, so better leave them to the hardcore collectors unless you plan on becoming one!

Got the following off eBay, Beosystem 7000, consisting of: cd,tape deck and beomaster plus a beogram 3500 and a mcp 5500. Couldn't get any sound from the set up but thanks to a post on this forum I have discovered a missing plug issue from the Line in/out socket and used the paperclip fix! The seller assures me there never was a plug and the unit worked fine?

My issue now is how do you tune the thing with the mcp 5500, I can use the presets already stored but I have no idea how to tune up or down, or change from am to fm? I will be looking for a mcp 7000 to make life easier but until then any help appreciated. The manuals available on the interweb don't have any details about this, unless there is a manual I haven't found yet.
