Before I knew about the clips, I used a blunt thin knife to pry off the grilles on mine which worked, but is obviously not the way to do it... (especially not on your own speakers ) But I still can't work out how to properly push the clips open, even if I try!

So I agree with Peter, better not open them. Anyway, you can see the drivers through the fabric when you put a small flashlight right against it. This won't tell you if the foam surrounds are getting sticky (first sign of them going), but you should be able to see if they are ripped or even missing bits already.

Tricky! I would wait for his response first as taking the grilles off may well cause some of the plastic clips to break. Essentially each grille has a number of clips on the sides which you can feel through the fabric. These are pushed in and then they unclip. Fiddly and I broke two on my Penta 3s the one time I did this! Decided not to bother again until I hear a change!

I'm about to take a closer look at the Pentas. Have to check if I can trust the word of the dealer, who among other things (!!!) claimed that none of the speakers suffered from foam rot.

But - pardon my ignorance - how do I remove the grills?

Thanks Mika for your good advice. The dealer hasn't replied yet, he won't be in his shop before Monday, so let's see what happens.

I'm glad to know that I'm not limited to the speakerlink connections in case I keep the Penta 1's. Nice to know that you have a solution on the speakerlink/powerlink problem Steve.

Sorry to hear your bad news

If you decide to keep the Penta 1's, please don't worry in terms of connections, I can sort out some Powerlink to Speakerlink convertors if you want to use them with a newer audio system or TV with Powerlink sockets - that gives you all the same connection options as the mk.2 and mk.3 versions.

While waiting for the dealer to reply, you have good time to calmly think it over:

Would you be happy with Mk.1's?
If you still have that BC9000, these would be easier to connect, but the lack of Powerlink may annoy you later if you upgrade the rest of the system
The displays aren't quite as nice
The sound probably is just as good
Mk1's are older and will probably need service sooner
If you return them, what are your chances of finding a good pair of Mk.2's at the right price elsewhere? (probably good, being in Denmark)

I haven't really followed the prices, but off the hat I'd want at least 20% discount for the wrong model, and some more for the disappointment - definitely not your fault if you checked it twice.

Purchased Penta 2 - got Penta 1

Yesterday I received my "new" Penta 2, or should I say I thought so, because when I connected the speakers I noticed that they didn't have powerlink. I checked the type number, which was 6601, so there is no doubt they're Penta 1.

I've purchased the speakers from a shop specializing in used B&O. When I first noticed the speakers on their website I contacted the dealer in order to find out whether they were MK1, MK2 or MK3, and he told me in an email that they were MK2. Later on when I had deceided to buy the Pentas he confirmed in an email that they were MK2.

So now I feel like having paid for a car from 2005 with a 1800 cc engine and got a car from 2002 with a 1600 cc engine. What do you think I should do?

1. Say that I want my money back.

2. Say that the shop has to provide me with some Penta 2 instead .

3. Say I want some of my money back. In this case how much is the difference in value between the two models?

The speakers seems to be in a very good condition, so maybe I should keep them, .........or should I?

I have contacted the dealer but haven't heard from him yet.
