It is basically the same as changing the ic on the STB, only easier!

You don't even have to take the chassis from it's position.

Remove the 2 screws on both sides of the module and remove the flatcable. Then it is rather easy to change the ic.

Costs are probably around the 55 euro (just found the invoice) for the chip itself.

I do indeed have the Dolby Digital module.

I upgraded the STB-B IC myself inside the Avant (was an old one with all outdated STBs)

Is this module you speak of essentially the same, ie a little chip that simply plugs in inside - no special tools, no soldering etc?

If so, any idea of the cost and part number?

First of all, I assume you have a Dolby Digital module in your Avant, so the software of the avant doesn´t have to be upgraded.

Then, on the back of the avant there is the module, which has a (hardware)chip. It is easy to locate it and rather easy to do it yourself.

The benefit of DTS is better sound. DTS has for instance less compression on the rear channels. Lots of DVD´s has a special DTS track included. The difference can be heard easily.

But no more benefits then the DTS sound.

But the upgrade doesn´t cost much, so I think it´s worth every penny/euro.

Would appreciate it if you could dumb it down for me a bit!

Are you saying I need to replace some of the hardware or is it simply a software update. If it is software, do I need B&O to come over with a laptop or can I do it myself?

Also, if I do get my Avant up to version 2.4, are there any other benefits other than having DTS sound?

Just replace the 1.4 with the latest 2.4 version abd you have DD and DTS.

I´ve done this with my brother´s avant for a few month´s ago. He had the 1.9 software.

As I told, It all has to do with the codec´s the module has to deal with.

Just order the software which is used in a RF (DVD) version with DTS.

I have version 1.4.

I guess this means I only have Dolby Digital?

Is there any other functions I could be missing out on by having this software version? If yes, is it a hardware or software upgrade to take me to the latest (2.4?) SW version?

I LOVE my Avant so would like to make it the best it can be while its still alive!

In monitor information you have to search for something like `32 IC607 (DSM) ver 1.9`

If you´re having 1.9 then you have probably the latest software for the DolbyD module.

If you will replace it with 2.2 or higher from the other DTS boards, then you have the DTS functionality.

But keep in mind, if you´re having the 1.9 version, this supports 2 channel PCM as the 2.4 doesn´t.

If you have the DTS module, then it will only be displayed shortly in the display where normaly the clock is displayed, as for Dolby Digital it is always displayed next to the clock.

How can I tell which software version my Avant has?

I go to the 'Monitor Information' page but I can see several entries in there beginning 'SW' so am unsure of which one I should be looking at.

Whenever I play a DVD via my DVD1 the Avant display says 'Dobly Digital'

I have never seen it say 'DTS'

If you have a 93xx type, then it is possible to place a Dolby Digital module (with 2.4 software it will be also DTS) instead of the Dolby Surround module.

This DD module is the one with three socket's, Front, Sub and Rear.

If you're planning to replace the board, be carefull! There has also to be made a slight adjustment on the chassis, which is very important!

I cannot find it on my Avant :-(

I have a 32" RF DVD model. I don't know if all Avant has this, but mine has 2 digital inputs, one for the V.Tape Scart socket and one for the AV Scart socket. They are located next to the Powerlink sockets.

I assume the Digital input on the BV9 is Coaxial like on the Avant. For my Avant I use this adaptor to convert the audio from my PS3: Converter
