Tim doesn't hold back!! I have done a couple of the write ups but am probably a little more boring!! Tim does them from the position of repairing them so he tends to concentrate on bits that annoy him! The Beoworld articles were largely compiled by the original owner and are largely taken from product brochures - I do try to edit some of the more blatant hype! Always happy to amend any particularly awful articles and do add a few author's notes at the bottom!

Looking forward to a completely objective view of the BV10 (when it arrives)

Beocentral is quite good for objective reviews (certainly on vintage stuff).

Agreed - that and Beoworld work quite well together. Here we have usually more details, like physical dimensions, and the contemporary hype you would expect from a sales brochure - then you can go to Beocentral and they will tell you (nicely) if the product actually sucks

Actually we are working on this type of info - Lee is about to announce an upgrade to the software with a feature which seems to collate answers to queries in a useful way. It will be in the New Year but we hope it will go at least some of the way to meeting this need.

Peter, I have tried and send you the document I made, let me know if you cannot get it.

I do not see the wiki as a product review site... but a place to store all the valuable tech info related to all the products. People spend time answering other people's question, I really do not see why the same people would not update a page with these same elements.

Wiki must be moderated. It goes without saying. Does not need to be open to everyone as well.

Factual entries are just that, and unless stuff is missing I can't see much "user updating" happening on the vintage product pages. User reviews are always interesting but I would want them to be objective - always difficult on a fansite - how many folk are going to spend 16K on a telly and then tell you it's crap (assuming it was of course)!

Unblocked. Beowiki was started on the Beocollectors site but I never saw any entries. I have personally written a good number of entries in the reference site which probably explains why they are a bit boring! I do try to update when I get information but I do have a day job! I see no reason why the database cannot be a type of members wiki but articles will need to be submitted to the moderators to put on at least initially. If we had a good response, I imagine it could go fully interactive but as John says, there are lots of good intentions and then one realises the time it takes!

I think the answer is no Phil.

To be fair, when the new site was launched members were encouraged to write reviews of products that would be posted on site. At the time I had a newly acquired Beolit 800, and as the site didn't have any text for this model, I wrote a review (which incidentally can be found largely cut and pasted on the Beophile site). Sadly, not many others followed suit.

I'd be very surprised if a Beowiki were incorporated into this site for two reasons: one, as a commercial entity any inaccurate or libelous material would have implications for the site's owner; and two, there's the closer ties with B&O and the additional sensitivites concerning information appearing on site here that might upset them....I think that's been discussed at length already though.

No idea why it was blocked - unblocked now. A Beowiki was tried before but got almost no entries. I have no problem with that type of site but it takes a lot of building and runs the risk of innaccuracies. I had forgotten about the work you are doing on the Beoport software - I agree that that should take precedence. I have sent you a PM.

I am currently very busy using my computer skills trying to solve another issue many Beoworlder are having with their Beolink PC2 box not working with their Mac. Been working non-stop (well almost) on it for 2 months now.

My redactional skills are not that good, but I'd be happy updating a wiki if their was one.

I have been suggesting a wiki many times now, which would allow people to edit pages without the need for computer skills. In that way people like the author of Beophile could contribute to it rather than having to create his own separate site. In the same way, Keith would have to host his Beo5 website on a different server.

Last time I mentioned on this site, that many things could be improved*, I was challenged, in the same way you're doing today, to be more detailed and, after a whole weekend working on it, I sent a long word document to Lee, which remain unanswered.

The wiki idea has been rejected many time, by Lee for the reason that someone else had tried and that no-one had participated. We all know who this other person is, and that is probably why it has failed. Also the other site does not have the traffic this site has.

Other members haverejected the idea, as they find Wiki forum messy. But it is not the forum that I want to replace by a wiki, but the static pages. Is wikipedia messy?

They are many good people with a lot of good will on this site who I am sure would be happy to participate.

(*I do not want to improve the site because I do not like it, but because I like it - just to be clear.)

What we therefore need is to keep the pages evolving. This cannot be done by magic so if anyone is interested in helping out, please volunteer. I seem to remember that you are good with computers Phil. Do you fancy a try?
