As being a Tandberg fan, what is BM1600 Tandberg Type? I have seen this reference somewhere before and couldn't find any info about that!

It is used by some of us to descrive the Beomaster 1400 and 1600 of the late 60s. They have a certain resemblance to some Tandberg models - though probably not that much if you are a Tandberg fan!!

Glad to hear your system is complete after 35 years. That's a lot of patience!

Hi Beocool,

Yes.......... just one of those items I couldn't stretch to at the time, and then reel to reel recorders were overtaken as technology moved on. It's just a nice item to have, matching the rest of the system. I will try to get it up and running and try some of the tapes. It will be interesting to hear how they compare with vinyl and CDs. Years ago there was a perennial argument about whether tape was inferior or not to vinyl. The main argument in favour of tape was that master recordings always started on tape in the studio (but I suspect those machines were vastly superior to even the best B&O tape machines).

If you are a nice chap and are friendly with your dealer, they will often ring when they have some odd bits! I was offered a Beomaster 1600 (tandberg type) and some speakers the other day - declined as I really don't need any more! But very kind of him to offer!

Re: Vintage Deal from a Dealer!

Glad to hear your system is complete after 35 years. That's a lot of patience!

Re: Vintage Deal from a Dealer!

Always nice to hear of a good deed :)

I am personally convinced that dealers could do a nice sideline in the odd bit of vintage B&O (Beolit colour radios for example) that would complement some of the newer stuff quite nicely, but hey ho...

Vintage Deal from a Dealer!

Called in at Liverpool B&O earlier in the week to pick up an IR splitter for controlling two STBs.

Two days later get a call from the shop, and half expect it's just a courtesy call to see if the splitter installed OK. Wrong. They've been given some vintage equipment from a house clearance and might I be interested in some of the items..... just take them away, condition unknown and no guarantees.

Called at the shop this morning. First to emerge from the backroom, a Beocord 1200 with a library of tapes ranging from Beethoven to Pink Floyd. (This completes my BM1200 BG1203 system after 35 years!)

Then, a Beocenter 4000 (The Jacob Jensen model). Then a Beogram 1700 (which refused to let us bolt down the turntable/platter): protected stylus MMC20 looking intact! Finally a pair of S40 speakers (with, on removing a fret, the expected foam rot).

Fantastic. What can I say other than a big thank you to Nick and Irvine (who will not be getting a big thank you from my better half! The Beocenter 4000 is another big beast and I've already just introduced a rather large Beomaster 2000 to the household!)

Some restoration work beckons

Thanks again to B&O Liverpool
