The one on the wall was a pre-production model and had clearly had a hard life! The bottom of the bezel actually had a sharp edge from being either rested on the floor or slightly dropped - something that had been noted and a modification made to the production models. I am sure some system could be found - maybe some type of cushioned support to stop it slipping forward?

Re: BV10 UK Launch - My Report

Hey guys, is it possible to order the TV without any stand, and just lean it against a wall? Various interior designers tout this as an interesting and modern way to decorate: lean mirrors or large picture frames against a wall...

I wonder if this would look good with a BeoVision 10. It would certainly solve the "stand is too far off the ground" complaint!

I was lucky enough to be there in the afternoon and here are my thoughts on the TV.

Yes slim, yes the B&O Logo shouldn't be on the top bezel but no real isses with where it is.

Couple of points I didn't like;

1. - The Wall Bracket is a great design BUT its not powered!!!!! Those of us lucky enough to have powered stands on their TV's for the last 20+ years really don't fancy having to get up and down to move the TV, especially when you have bed knees........... ;-)

2. - Cabling, all of the access for cabling runs along the bottom of the TV, again held on by mostly magnets, so fairly easy to use. By the time you have Scart, HDMI, STB, PL, Aerial and any other cables you need, could present somewhat of a problem due to limited space etc.

As a general point maybe a cabinet stand for the BV10 will help get round this issue. Does anyone just watch a TV with an Aerial these days?

3. - Frets, it seemed that any colour apart from the Black one detracts from the frame / bezel / screen due to the colours used.

It might be nice to have other colour frames available as the shiny stainless steel one didn't wow me.

But all in all it looked very nice for the price of a new small car. Sound seemed ok for the very small speakers used, Picture was good, although I would make sure you get the one with the Anti-reflective coating (UK standard only?) as the floor version had this and the picture seemed a lot better than the one on the wall.

BC5 - again I agree with Lee the black material will get marked and scratched etc but it looked good, could have done with seeing what the hands free sound was like both using one and listening to someone using one (which is the real test of course!)

103" = 911 money but it was impressive if only for its size and how easy it was to use etc.

I enjoyed it hugely and am looking forward to the next one!

Re: BV10 UK Launch - My Report

kokomo:

This one is exactly what I want a set to look like............

Are you really saying Peter that prior to its launch, a design of this type with a speaker bezel occupying a large proportion of the TVs frontage is 'exactly' what you were looking for in a TV design?

If so, all well and good, but as yet , it isn't a design that I see many of the world's other manufacturers rushing to emulate. Of course it could be argued that is what makes B&O unique I suppose.

That is exactly what I mean. I prefer the BV10 to the BV5 because the step between the speaker cover and screen is almost not there. I like the speaker appearing as part of the set as I like the square proportion and it will help with reducing the cable clutter.

Each to his own I suppose. The picture is excellent - better than the other LCDs in my view though I would like to see it side by side with a good plasma.

Re: BV10 UK Launch - My Report

Peter :

i find it rather boring looking tbh

it doesn't make any statement apart from 'i can't afford a bv7'

Completely disagree! I don't like the BV7 personally - looks like a lot of other TVs. This one is exactly what I want a set to look like and has a better picture - the 7-40 will no doubt be updated with the backlit LED screen later to improve it - and there is not that much in the price. But we don't have to agree! I think this will be a set that will sell well. But I expect the BV7 to continue to sell well also.

Does a back lit LED screen provide an improvement in picture quality...or is the main benefit a thinner display? Will be interested to compare with a current BV7.

As a former owner of the BV5 I do like the design, but from the pictures prefer the BV7. I suppose it also depends on placement of course.

I like this BV10. It looks good and perhaps I will buy one for a bedroom in my house, 40" is a small screen for a good tv exprience.

A BL8000 or a BV5 can only be designed once......

So...... why not a BV5 update with a good 50" Plasma panel ;-) The corbusier's chair has not been re-designed since its creation.....

The BV5 design would last at least 20 years with some technical updates.

PS I do like the BV10, but who am I to judge ...

It does however offer a different take to the normal wall mounted TV and better sound quality. I prefer the square dimensions to the rectangular norm and think it looks good when off. As I will be using it on a stand, the square format is much more like the Avant and this puts the screen at the right level for me.

There are other TVs in the range - the BV7 will now come in 32, 40 and 55 inch sizes and have no speaker bezel. The BV8-40 offers a very different look at a good price. There is of course also the BV4 and 9 ranges - I think B&O are offering something for almost all tastes.

Re: BV10 UK Launch - My Report

i find it rather boring looking tbh

Okay, point taken - you can't design anything that everybody loves regardless!

Out of interest, what would your ideal new B&O TV look like then?

Lee

Perhaps inevitably now Lee, the universally adopted 'thin screen' technology has realised the 'dream' of most people in the past of a 'hang
on the wall' TV, almost as one would hang a painting. Evidence of this
is the positioning by many owners of the TV screen high on a wall, well
above the direct eye-line but in a position where previously a mirror
or painting would have been sited.

The question of an 'ideal new
B&O TV' in design terms has I think been made an immeasurably more
difficult task in comparison to previous CRT cabinets, by the new flat
screen technology. The rectangular screens produced by all the
manufacturers are so similar that the only scope for specialist
manufacturers such as B&O is in the frame design, quality of
materials used, the finish and colour(s), picture and audio
quality, the 'one remote' principle and its integration with other B&O products.

I strongly believe that many potential owners will be deterred by the design of the BV10 as will be attracted to it.

Finally,
imagine if this new TV had been introduced fulfilling all the 'quality'
criteria I listed earlier, including the price, I doubt very much
indeed if many would have been disappointed if a speaker bezel covering
a third of the lower half had NOT been included.

I can't envisage there
being any shouts of "We demand a large speaker bezel"! No, I think because it's
new & B&O, the 'King's new clothes' syndrome applies.

Out of interest, what would your ideal new B&O TV look like then?

Firstly Lee, thanks very much for the information and photos.

I realise that I am probably alone in this opinion, by I'm struggling to appreciate the inclusion of the large speaker grill in the lower section of the TV. To me it looks odd.

If the drivers are as small as reported why couldn't they be incorporated into each side of the screen (like the BV3)?

Finally, if as Lee says:-

"Of course, i doubt many people would use it as a 'stand alone' and would add at least a pair of 6000's - so no real issues. It sounds fine as a standalone, and will sound excellent with additional speakers.",

if I was one of these people, I could envisage becoming annoyed at the large 'redundant' bezel spoiling the lines of the TV.

Wow! Someone who, like me, is not wetting themselves over the design of this TV!

I am no admirer of the current ranges where two thirds to a half of what you look at is speaker cover, even if Father Christmas can be painted on this new one or it could possibly be white!!! Wow, that's real progress!!

The aluminium frame as attractively slim but why is it still spoiled by the wide areas of blackness between it and the picture?

Sorry B&O, you have missed a trick here.
