I would actually avoid the Philips based one and go for the later version - speaking from my own experience (I have both versions) but also , if you search the forum, you will find similar opinions.

Re: DVD1?

That is fantastic, thank you.

I don't recall seeing the Input 1 and 2 sockets on my Dolby board at the back of the TV but I guess they must be there - I will check tonight.

Sounds like it is all definitely worthwhile.

Thanks again.

These are shown as Input 1 and Input 2. The BV3 will detect automatically the digital input. Definitive worthwhile, digital sound makes hughe difference compared to scart. Your beolab set up is pretty good so you will noticed it.

I also recommend you go for the DVD1. It's quite capable and fully compatible with Beo4/5. If anything, the DVD1 MkI (Philips based) is probably better as it's less sensitive to DVD quality that its succesor (Pioneer). In any case, condition is everything.

See the connectors:

My current DVD player connects to the TV via SCART. If it does have the "digital outs" (which is unlikely because it is a basic model) what lead does one use to connect the "outs" to the TV? And into which socket on the BV3 would they connect?

Thanks.

The DVD1's Coax connections mean no extra powered convertors etc, etc.

Re: DVD1?

hello,

i have bv5, blab5 front and blab3 rears and a DVD1.

dvd1 is basic dvd player but does the job well. the dvd1 has a digital output that goes to my bv5 where the dolby processor does an amazing job of decoding into 5.1 channels. the dvd1 is not fancy machine but is very capable. the picture and sound is good. the machine is reliable.

the sound is more dependent on the speakers you use and where you place them in my opinion.

I have a BV3 with 8000s as fronts and 6000s as rears. My DVD player is a pretty basic sony machine (NS355) and I am just wondering whether I should get a B&O DVD player. I have a Topfield box so probably wouldn't need the DVD2 and all its features. I wasn't sure if having surround sound is wasted somewhat if the DVD player is a basic model. Bit noddyish to ask but does the quality of the player have any effect on the quality of the sound or is this solely determined by the quality of the TV to which it is connected?

Thanks - any info appreciated.
