When younger, my Uncle owned a dark braun 300 SL Gullwing. Dark spoke wheels, with black knock-offs, braun interior. No flash like today.

Whenever he visited, I creatively developed a variety of very important reasons why he needed to drive me around the lakes, such as " We are out of bread, cheese, or berries. " ( I hid these items ). We would roar around watching the trees and houses blur, and yes, the radio was a 2 band, one-speaker Blaupunkt. The music was primarily local accordian and jodelling ( a la Autobahn, sans Kraftwerk ), and the LW signal would fade in and out under the Alps.

According to him, the beast drove like a tank ( no power steering ) until it reached a velocity of 90 kph. Sadly, I heard it was sold one day: More sadly when I found out that it went for only 10,000 DM to a German buyer.

So, I'd really like to see the new version with the B&O system included.

I'm fairly sure it's Harman/Becker. The company used to be called Becker before they got involved with Harman and they produce after market car entertainment / navigation as well as standard / optional equipment for Mercedes, BMW and some other car manufacturers.

Anybody remember this one - this is my kind of budget - a 1970's Corgi 802 300SL Gullwing? I restored this one to collector condition. I'd wouldn't dream of guesstimating the value of a mint exmaple of the real thing.

The SLS is obviously conscious of its lineage from the 300SL.

BTW, who makes the in-dash control unit - FM/AM/CD amp - any specs/details on that?

The SLS AMG is sadly not in my budget. Possibly the electric one without taxes is .....

I am more the Audi A3, A6, BMW 3-series and Honda S2000 type.

Hi car fanatics,

On 23th September I visited the German car show IAA in Frankfurt. See some photo’s below.

I was a bit nervous while making the photo’s because these photo’s were made in a non public room at the car show, the salesman surprised me by taking me by the arm and guided me through a blinded glass door and there I was all alone with the SLS fitted with the B&O premium sound system while my colleague did not know where I had gone…..I forgot to capture the silver SLS AMG in this room, I only made the interior sound system photo’s

I remember the ATL speakers in the dash are fixed ones, not the moving ones in other premium setups.
