I have considered either a Project or a Rega, but finally ended up with a Beogram RX2 and a NAD PP3 preamp (with digital usb out to PC). The only place the record player can be is besides the ouverture, so it had to be small and nicely designed, and here the RX2 fits the bill (besides it was cheap, 42 pounds sterling for the record palyer). This also needs some minor volume adjustment when changing from radio or cd... But yes, the requirement for expensice MMCs is irritating at times, but fortunately I have 2 MMC3 to my disposal (and perhaps also a rebuild MMC2)

best regards

If you want a good quality non B&O alternative to spin those old LP's then consider a Pro-ject Debut record deck with built in pre-amp.

Brand spanking new for less than £300 complete with cartridge and they get rave reviews.

It will plug straight into the aux input on the ouverture. I did exactly the same a few years ago and now have the same turntable plugged into my Beosound 4.

Pros : A good "out of the box" quality turntable without the worry over expensive B&O MMC stylus replacements.

Cons : No control via beolink and not the same wow factor as the classic tangential players.

Mine is in a sideboard below the Beosound out of view so I can live with it being non B&O!!

Only minor critisism is that even with the pre-amp, the relative volume is a bit lower than the CD or radio on the Beosound so some adjustment is needed on the volume control.

Re: Beogram 7000 and Ouverture, pros and cons

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Now all that is left is figuring out if I really want to play records via my ouverture (around 350 pounds can also buy many other B&O-goodies and my MX6000 is probably soon up for retirement)

remote control will also work with the beo4; use the "aux" bottom at the overture or the beo4 and the beogram will start, in the display of the overture "phono" appears. You can also use the "stop" and "go" as well as the ">>" and "<<" funktion. If You start the beogram directly at the desk, the overture will turn on and if You press the red bottom at the beogram for longer than a second the whole system will turn off.

I have the beogram 6500 at my overture and all this works very well.

Regards

I have recently bought a beogram 7000 also in relatively mint condition with a MMC2. Mine is a limited edition white model, so i paid quite a bit more for it. 330 pounds seems reasonable to me.

While the sytlus on mine appeared to be in good condition- i had it checked and the tip itself was not very worn I suspect the internals were not the best.. Afterall, it was the original stylus that came with the turntable. I've just replaced the stylus with a sounds smith smmc1. Yes expensive- but the difference in sound is incredible!

You can't remote control the 7000 unless you have the 7000 beolink remote (i don't think)

http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=697

Hope that helps.

I found a used Beogram 7000 for around 330 pounds sterling with a working mmc2... I suppose this would work just fine with my ouverture via the aux as the bg7000 has riaa, but can I also remote control it? 330 pounds is probably a fair price, it seems to be in mint condition... should I have any hesitations besides the fact that I already got a Beogram 6002 sitting around doing nothing?

best regards
