They don't usually work in any CD players that were built before their invention (late '90s?).

If you are burning a CD-R that is only to be used in audio CD players, they often work more reliably if you use a slower burning speed. Even if the medium specifies 48x or whatnot, it seems the final quality is better at lower burn speed.

My trusty old Sony CDP-30 from 1985 - bought it new, never repaired, never cleaned! - plays most CD-R's, but not all (Canon as a notable non-worker), so the type of the medium has some effect as well.

Re: Beogram CD 4500 doesn't play CD-R anymore!

Guess what! Cleaning the lens did it, it plays all my cd-r again, thanks for the tips!

I mostly have regular cd-r, not audio-specific or CD-RW's.

Re: Beogram CD 4500 doesn't play CD-R anymore!

Hallo Perola,

I have had this problem twice over the last few years. The solution in my case was to clean the lens (carefully). I believe CD-r's are less reflective so when the lens is dirty it will stop playing those first.

after the fix , my CD5500 and CD5005 still playing any type of CDRs quick and stable . but read the steps very carefully .

Re: Beogram CD 4500 doesn't play CD-R anymore!

Interesting one this. When I had a 4500 it would never play 'ordinary' -R discs. It would only play those discs bearing the words 'Audio' or 'For Audio Use' on them. The other types of data discs wouldn't play at all.

Are you saying your player would play every type of -R disc previously?

Only other thing I can think of is a laser problem and it cannot read the disc, therefore it shuts down. However, if your player still plays the standard commercial recorded CDs then the laser must be OK.

Beogram CD 4500 doesn't play CD-R anymore!

Until some months ago, my beogram cd 4500 played all type of audio cd-r with no problem at all. Suddenly the cd player do not recognise any cd-r. It won't read, shuts down after a few seconds.

What happened?

Because my cd-player intil recently played cd-r perfectly well, there must be a solution to this problem?
