As you say, very little can go wrong in a cable, which is why generally they are overlooked. It is most likely the speaker, but it would be worth just swapping them round to check. Each speaker can draw quite a bit over 2500 watts from a power socket and seeing as a socket goes up to 3000 watts, if one is poorly wired, there is always the potential of something burning through. However unlikely, it's worth a try!

Re: Beolab 5 failure

Sorry about that my friend. In UK all appliances that plug into a power socket on the wall have three pins and a built-in fuse in the plug itself.
I agree with Peter, With speakers of that value, leave it alone and get your dealer to sort it. At least if he cocks it up it won't cost you!

Andy T.

Re: Beolab 5 failure

I appreciate the help, but power to the speaker is via a simple 2 core lead from the socket. not much can go wrong here, Can not see any reference to a fuse in the guide.

Not very happy at the moment though.

Re: Beolab 5 failure

Looking at the service manual, there would appear to be a 5A and a 10A fuse in the speaker. I would however strongly suggest getting your dealer to deal with this. These are expensive pieces of kit and deserve proper care! Only thing I can think is try swapping the speakers round. May well be a fault in the cable itself, or even the socket. The BeoLab 5s can draw a massive amount of current, so the cables must be thick and very well wired.

Re: Beolab 5 failure

Ahh I see Alex is back, hope all your exams went well.

As for the fuse in the plug????
