In a home setup, the issue is that you could not be in front of the TV : if you sit in front of such a screen you get a mixed image of the two sources... Not very interesting.

If you display the same source on both directions, you get a viewable front image, that corrects the issue a little bit.

But the other issue is that by using this system, the resolution of each image is half the screen resolution.

Last point : when using this system and sitting in front, with a dual source, you get a 3D image, without special glasses. The effect is quite cool, but picture quality is really not perfect, and you have to sit at the right position AND the right distance (which depends on your eyes spacing)...

Something interesting caught my eye; "Dual View" / Split View.

Several car manufacturers now offer Dual View; for example Mercedes.
A front-seat passenger can watch a video on an in-dash monitor while the
driver can only view a navigation screen or other info.
The 8-inch TFT LCD monitor in the center of the dash shows two separate images simultaneously
by placing pixels adjacent to one another.
A filter then divides the mixed images so that, depending on the seating position,
only the pixels that make up one image can be viewed.

This isn't new, but it is now slowly becoming available (Mercedes, Range Rover mj 2010, Jaguar new XJ).

Is this, or something similar, a technology that could be interesting for use in a home setup ?

My mother could watch her soap opera whilst my father could watch the news
