I adjusted the settings on the PS3 as suggested by Seanie did a trial run and everything ok - back speakers on a functioning. I left the Blue Ray in standby went to watch the film last night and so sound despite all the settings being exactly the same, managed to get the sound back (but just the front 3 speakers) after a lot of fiddling.

Re: Help Required Please BS3 BV4 PS3 TrueHD Trouble with Sound Output

I experienced the same problem with a couple of disks.

I narrowed it down to the PS3, if i turned it off then back on it was fine. It seemed as if the PS3 was not always providing a stream of the HD signal.

Re: Help Required Please BS3 BV4 PS3 TrueHD Trouble with Sound Output

Thank you Puncher - all a bit too tecnical for me I am afraid. I suppose my question is quite simple realy, can anyone who is using a PS3 as their Blue Ray source connected to a BS3, either in a BV7 or BV4, please tell me the settings for the PS3 in order to obtain the optimum sound quality when watching a Blue Ray film, when that film be in Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 True HD

Re: Help Required Please BS3 BV4 PS3 TrueHD Trouble with Sound Output

Haven't there been lots of threads about the BS3's ability to handle the high definition audio formats - the concensus was (I believe) that, if it can then, it can only handle it as PCM from the PS3, if you utilise the HDMI bitstream then it is "downgraded" to normal Dolby 5.1.

I would recommend conducting a search for BS3 or BV7 and High Definition Audio/TrueHD/DTS MA for more details.

Here is one long, and at times rather heated, discussion on the subject - I think there are others too.

Re: Help Required Please BS3 BV4 PS3 TrueHD Trouble with Sound Output

Hi Seanie,

Thank you for the quick response. I have disabeled all of the PCM settings that I am able to within the BS 3 menu system and left my BD/DVD HDMI audio output format anf optical digital output format as Bitstream and it seems to have done the trick.

It would still be useful though if you could provide me with a screen shot of your PS 3 settings.

Thank you for your help.

Regards

i had the same issue with my PS3 on BS7 in the BV7

The PS3 sends all signals down the HDMI but the tv always choose PCM.

I disabled PCM on my PS3 and told it to only output digital and it was fine, i can check more settings later when i arrive back at home if you need a screen shoot of my PS3 settings.

I played my first "English 5.1 Dolby Digital True HD" Blue Ray disc last night (Transformers) and initially got no sound whatsoever. Other Blue Ray disc have played fine with full surround sound, but with this particular disc nothing.

On the PS3 BD/DVD Menu I have the following settings

BD/DVD Videoformat I have this set to Auto

BD/DVD Audio Output format HDMI ( I had set to Bitstream)

BD/DVD Optical Digital Output format. (Linear PCM)

Previously these settings have worked fine and have brought my rear speakers in automatically.

In order to get sound from the Transformers disc, I had to change the BD/DVD Audio Output format HDMI to Linera PCM, however despite the two rear speaakers being "on" the sound throughout the movie only came from the front three speakers and by changinging the setting from Bitstream to Linera PCM when playing other BD's the rear speakers do not automatically cut in.

Any suggestions please?

Regards
