Thanks for the reply. We did check all the settings available to us in terms of tone, balance, etc, to no avail. This weekend we'll drag the speakers back into the room again and try swapping them over to see if Mr Townsend comes roaring back!

The sound of Pete Townsend's guitar at the beginning is in the left-channel. I would check things like the balance, and try changing the left/right switches round on the speakers, so what was the left is now the right and visa-versa.

Sounds to me like the speakers are blown, either the amplifier section, the crossover, or the drivers (probably the drivers, which isn't the most expensive part to go wrong!).

The cable does look a bit old and dodgy at the connector end - I'll have a closer look and see if a wire has come out.

Really do apprecaite the offer of trying another cable, I'll look further and come back.

Life is just one long party for me, so I'm not sure if we played it too loud, but I don't think so!

I'm in Cardiff, South Wales and there is an official B&O store here, but it may be very expensive to take them there for repair?

When you said 'Pinball Wizard' i thought you meant the micro had gone. This actually looks hilarious as the display lights flash like a disco rig, reminiscent of a pinball or fruit machine!!

The first thing i would check is the powerlink cables. Have you moved the unit at all? Have you had new carpets fitted (carpet fitters have knives and other rough equipment!), or have you moved the speakers?

Do you have any other equipment with powerlink outputs you could try the speakers on?

If you need any Mk2 Powerlink Cables to test, i can post you some - just PM me your address.

I would start the investigation by checking the tweeters in the active speakers. It sounds to me like they are blown!

Have you had a party recently?

I'm not sure about the displays.

You need an engineer who is skilled with vintage equipment. Where are you??

Beocenter 9500: Pinball Wizard without the Pinball!

We have for many years enjoyed our Beocenter 9500, but just lately there seems to have been something missing from the sound. Last week "Pinball Wizard" by The Who came on and Pete Townsend's dramatic electric guitar was missing over the acoustic at the start!

We also have passive speakers from our 4500 system, connected them up and there was the guitar. I would add that the readouts on the active speakers are almost completely gone too.

Is this the end of our original active speakers or is it an inexpensive fix? (The passive speakers sound nowhere near as good!)
