What a wonderful trip you have had!
The Beolab/Beomaster 5000 with black fascia is really a sublime honor to your visit and Frede is definitely a true gentleman and an extremely impassioned person!
I am dying to see the next photos and in particular the Beomaster 4401 side by side to the black Beogram 4001!

Congratulations with your refurbished Beolab/Beomaster 5000, Peter. I know the feeling!

Frede's a gentleman, and an amazing perfectionist. Just the work he is doing restoring fascia is unbelievable.
I'm going to be listening to my own Beolab 5000 today, in homage.

I never heard M100s, but from the look I would say they are astonishing

I would not recommend it - the reason for using a BM4400 is the excellence of the power amplifier which would be missed if using Beolab 3s. However it would be your system so anything is possible. I would use the BL3s with the BC2 and get some vintage speakers for the vintage system.

Thanks for the advice. The cassette is not a problem as I will use it for vinyle only. As for CDs I have a BC2. Studpid question – can you run Beolab 3s with the Beomaster 4400?

Hi Peter - it sounds like you had a worthwhile and enjoyable trip.

I have to say that along with many others here your interest in/devotion to the B&O brand puts many who actually work in the distribution to shame !

Your new kit looks great - Frede seems to be an audio alchemist.

I recently got a 3 x LP triple gatefold 180gm version of Chris Woods fabulous two albums Tresspasser / The Lark Descending, which sound brilliant on my Beogram 7000 - but I would love to hear it via your system - a real analogue powerhouse !

Frede specialises in the restoration of the Beolab 5000 system but does do other items as well. He does do restorations to the highest standard and clearly the cost will reflect this. I suggest you contact him via his site. Martin Olsen is also highly skilled in restoration work and will be someone else to consider.

The 4000 is the most complex of these decks - my favourite - but is the most likely to go wrong! The 4002 is simpler internally but the performance is very similar! Just a thought! What do you plan to use it with? B&O systems are designed as systems and you will get the best performance by putting together a complete system rather than mixing and matching. The ultimate system would be a Beogram 4000 (or 4002), Beomaster 4400 and Beovox M100s. The cassette player is problematic as the Beocord 5000 Type 4715, although a wonderful design, is simply too complex and will find new and amusing ways of wrecking your tape collection. A Beocord 2200 is a very good alternative but does not match. The alternative would be an 8000 series deck but this is obviously a completely different design.

For CDs, a CDX is the obvious choice or use a high end model hidden elsewhere.

Do you know if Frede restores other systems / turntables? I have been looking for a mint Beogram 4000 for about a year tgo start a vintage system. Any thoughts?

1. W did go in the Prius - went very well right up to the point when someone drove into the back of me at speed near Harrogate. Carried on but the impact broke the sat nav so difficult to say it would have found Frede. Averaged over 50 mpg - even with Lee driving - I think he rather liked it!

3. Yes - and we found a catalogue with them in.

Did you go in the Prius? If so, how did she perform and what was your average MPG?
Be honest, and tell us what was the first music Frede demonstrated to you on his 5000?
Did your Sat Nav find his little track?
