Indeed, you needed a compatible audiomaster, with timer. Not all 2-way audiomaster had a "light" compatible timer. My BC2500 isn't :-(

But again, that show how B&O was advanced. You could control light across rooms and schedule them, and that was years ago!

You can access the LIGHT command and use it in the same way as the Beo4 / Beo5, but you can not set LIGHT as a timer source (as you could with the older two-way IR products from the late 80´s and early 90´s) and wake up to both audio/video and a room filled with light.

The reasons manufacturers don't recommend rechargeable batteries are typically one or more of the following:

they have smaller cell voltage even when fully charged, and thus usable battery life can be very short - even though there's still energy left in the cell, the voltage might have dropped below the limit the device was designed to work at
they discharge by themselves even when not used at all, again resulting in a short battery life for an application like this (perhaps with the added nuisance of resetting the clock)
they have a very large short circuit current in case something goes wrong, and may cause serious damage

And finally, a remote + alarm clock needs very little energy, and even normal batteries will probably last a long time. I simply wouldn't bother, you can buy a lot of alkaline (or even lithium) cells for the price of one set of good rechargeables.

But display and user interface looks well worth the money!

It looks much nicer and practical "in person" than the static publicity shots. The interface looks pretty slick considering the constraints of the displays. It's difficult to know if it will end up being a GREAT product but someone definitely put a whole lot of work into it. I'll get one.

I agree. Nice to see it in a live environment -looks really well finished! The sound seems to be lifted from the Serene -I use the same alarm!

In response to this problem the designers of the Beocom 5 have designed a completely new clock (shown here in another thread) based on colored circles that is only available as a 12 hour clock. A 24 hour model was not developed because it was thought to be too confusing.
