I just tried to see if Phono was aviable. It was not so I hit standby and list. Then found Phono on the AD list. I do plan on getting a Beogram 6500 at some point. Thank you for the tip.

When it's linked its really great to use the functions. I'm planing a few link rooms and at the moment the Beosystem is connected to a Beovision AV9000.

Re: Controlling Beosystem 6500 with Beo4

I got a Beo4 with my Beosystem 6500.

It controls the system as well as a Beolink 1000.

The things you can't adjust with a Beo4 or Beolink 1000 is the timer settings.

It's more simple to use a Beolink 1000 for sound adjustment like bass, treble and loudness.

I got a MCP6500 and I adjusted the radio stations with that. For everyday use I do use the Beo4 and the MCP6500 which is standing on top of the system.

You can adjust the radio stations with Beolink 1000 and Beo4. Try doing a search.

Whatever Beolink you are comfortable with of the 2 is good enough. I had to get used to the Beo4 but now its fine.

Re: Controlling Beosystem 6500 with Beo4

Steve, I have a Beosystem 6500 which I'm controlling with a Beo4, because it is connected to a BeoVision 8 and a BeoLab 2000. The integration to the BV8 made using a Beo4 the easiest choice, though I have both a Beolink 5000 and an MCP6500. Before getting the BV8, I used the Beolink 5000 for day-to-day operation.

If you want to control it with the Beo4, you should know there are various versions, and you'd really want to look for a Beo4 which has PHONO in the LIST selections. My Beo4 does not, and I have to use N.RADIO to start the record player - which, if I'd had N.RADIO functionality in that system wouldn't have been so smart.

Apart from that, using the Beo4 is no problem at all, and while I can be very critical of B&O at times, I am simply amazed at how well these units work together. I can sit in the kitchen and get the BBC News sound through the BeoLab 2000, routed from the BV8/STB through the Beosystem 6500 to me. Or I can go into the home office and enjoy the sheer beauty of a BV8 and a Beosystem 6500 together, as well as the excellent sound.

I do use the MCP6500 to do TIMER programming of the Beosystem 6500, something I doubt you can do with the Beo4, haven't even tried.

(And yes - there's a mint condition Beolink 7000, with the charging stand, for sale locally. Have been tempted.)

Re: Controlling Beosystem 6500 with Beo4

Go with the Beolink 1000 Steve, it will give you everything you need for daily use.

A bit more user friendly with the 6500 than a Beo4 and far more child proof.

I have a Beolink 1000 around somewhere, so I will see how I get on with that - I have a house full of toddleers at the moment (well one toddler, but she seems like a house full at times!) so I'm trying to stick to simpler remotes that can be wall-mounted away from sticky fingers!

Yes, I agree that the claimed 110WPC is far from the truth - just look at the rated total power consumption of 225W and the figures can't add up! Sounds like the mini-system manfacturers who make their claims in "watts peak-to-peak" (giving them figures of up to 4 times the actual rated power output!) - I suspect that the Beomaster 6500 probably gives out nearer to 55W per channel RMS.

However, the marketing numbers leave all my friends in awe and the Beomaster still has a good enough amp to drive Beovox Pentas in my 3m x 3m office, so I'm happy!

Do you reckon a Beolink 1000/Beo4 will give all the functions needed for everyday use? (I don't use the Beocord, so no need for recording)

Congratulations on the purchase. I have one too and I love it.

I use a beolink1000 with it. which seriously easier to use with it than the beo4.

The remote of preference would be a beolink7000 (though the 6500 has no RDS) or a mcp6500
I owned them both but sold them as they just took up too much space. (regretting selling the beolink 7000 though ...)

Though I used Penta's at one point, I personally would think using the redlines as they work very, very well with it.

Enjoy your system,

I've bought myself a Beosystem 6500 (without the MCP control panel) and it's currently being serviced by Simon at AVA Services, so I'm excitedly awaiting its return!

As I've not got the MCP6500 panel to go with it, I would be interested to hear from any other owners with your views on how easy (or otherwise!) it is to control the system using a Beo4 remote. Are there any functions (eg. setting the clock time or radio presets, etc) that can't be done without the MCP panel?

Then the next step will be finding some BIG passive speakers (RL7000/Beovox Penta?) to make best use of that 110 watts per channel power amp!

Best regards,
