I'm the proud owner of a palisander Beogram 8002 and exept the lid is a bit scruffy from bad cleaning it's a nice, perfectly working unit. I also got a white edition Beogram 6006 that is even more nice than the 8002.

I'm going to keep 'em both as they sound very great. As I always think. The better the B&O the more value it has. This seems to be right in most cases.

As for the value going up? Cool but that's not what I buy B&O for. It's for the B&O experience.

Hang on to exquisite vintage Beograms if you're planning on selling them, they're climbing fast in value. Vinyl has become extremely popular in certain circles, and the preferred choice is to have an excellent vintage player, with a design heritage. Where does one go then?

I think that price hits a nerve for some 8002 owners where they'd be willing to part with it at that pricepoint. I had another 8002 and was the original owner. I bought it with a MMC1 and it was total $1000 US in 1983.

Beware, because on some 8002s, the plastic that houses the leaf spring that holds up the dust cover becomes weak and explodes and breaks the plastic hinges as well. The turntable still works but it means you'll have to manually remove the dustcover and that devalues the unit. Also be aware there is a crucial microprocessor in there that is no longer manufactured. If that fails, the turntable becomes a donor.

Wow indeed.

I bought an absolute mint GB spec Rosewood BG8002 on eBay last year complete with what sounded (to me) like a fully functional MMC2 for £150. This was after a number unsuccessful bid attempts on 3 other units which went for over £250 to £400.

I guess it is all in the luck of the draw on who else wants one at the same time - and of course to know what you are prepared to pay for one.

Anyone wanna buy my BG8002 for $1500, buyer collects and I'll throw in a US spec RX with MMC5 for free?

Wow. It was a pretty cherry unit and came with a MMC2. A fellow from Audiogon told me. Its all in timing; hope that someone comes along and is willing to pay the price when the seller lists it. It had the box and all the packing blocks.

I bought mine (pretty cherry too) for a song and a dance. As lovely as it was, it didn't work but I had the confidence in my B&O repairman to fix it. I think the previous owner got frustrated and put it up in the closet before I bought it.
