I can only double-wow your two wows, Dave. Barker has a beautiful set-up. (To Whitefang, the platter is running, while the camera is fixed, which creates the strange looking disc. It has the regular platter for the Beogram 4002).

Is that a disc on your platter, or is it "naked". If so, it is not exactly the same. Plus, I don't recall my table having a quad mode. The Beocentral link I got suggests a couple of disturbing things, according to the info I got from it.

1. My memory is getting too wonky for my own good, and I better tatoo my children's names and birthdates on me somewhere lest I forget them, too.

2. That the three most highly respected audio outlets in southeast Michigan at the time I bought my B&O system ( Alma's, Pecar Electronics and The Grammophone) WAS INDEED selling discontinued B&O components as recent and new products! The only products that matched the purchase timeline and manufacturing lifetime were the S60 speakers The other two components would have been two years discontinued by the time I bought them. Unless, as the forums list suggests, there IS a big difference between the European and North American market.

Anyway, thanks much again for all the help and info, and I appreciate all of your patience. Now, one more question: When I first bought the B&O components, much was made of the fact they operated on 4 ohms, instead of the usual eight. I also noticed that B&O eventually started making their components 8ohms. I now have a Miller&Kreisal sat/sub speaker system. Are there B&O speakers that would serve well as sats, if my M&K sats crap out? Any info would be welcome.

Incidentally I have my 4002 hooked up to my BM 6000 Quad. I wonder if the OP could have a look at the photo below and confirm whether his deck looked like the one in the shot:

The 4500 is a halo item in the B&O line-up, and much sought after even today, because of its design. I've never owned a 4400, but as I understand this was one of the finest amplifiers in the range.

OK, I will concede the turntable may have been designated as 6000, ( thanks for the photo ), but will go to my grave insisting the reciever was designated 4500. At least I recall it from the literature I retained for several years( but have lost track of, as I have moved five times since ownership) and yes, the 6000 and the 4500, 4400, or whatever made perfect sense. The only thing that didn't make sense was the S-60 speakers I bought for it. A speaker available I can best recall as designate M-100 would have been a better choice, but placement restraints wouldn't allow their acquisition. Same reason I gladly bowed out from buying the 3300 reciever, if indeed I got THAT model number correct. I'm just glad to be able to lay my eyes, even if only online, on those wonderful peices of sound equipment!

PS: Incedentally, A friend suggested that maybe the dealer fudged all the info to be able to sell older stuff at a new price, as one appliance store tried to do to me with a washer and dryer. But it was purchased at Alma's Hi Fi in Dearborn, MI, probably the most reputable sound dealer in the Detroit area.

whitefang could have had any of the tables from that "family" 400x - 6000...

Does the Beogram 6000 make sense with the Beomaster 4400? Don't know the connections, but wasn't the Bg6000 quadraphonic? And made for this: http://beocentral.com/products/bm6000-1

I guess the Bg6000 can be used in standard stereo-mode. Someone will know.

And according to BeoCentral, the Beogram 6000 with the radial arm came in 1982, which is too late for Whitefang's purchase.

tan vs. rad would certainly settle it, though those tabs were certainly 400x-6000 territory, and i agree that none were exactly narrow...

this is rather fun!

it reminds of the old "photo quiz" thread -would love to see the crew put another quiz together!

Would be interesting to know if it was a tangential or radial tracking that way you could narrow it down. However, as far as I can see the tangential decks are the only ones with the controls on the lower r/h corner but they all tend to be much wider that the radial decks of that period..and none of those have the controls of that type placed on the r/h corner.

Edit. I'm with Jeff on this. I would think that to remember the controls would be much clearer than the size of the unit. It probably was the slickest turntable to the OP at the time & if he saw it today would conclude that it is bigger than he remembered!
