I have a similar system myself and several people that i know have a similar system.
So far i haven´t encountered the exact same problem, there have been issues with too low volume,
but the reason for that was a too low volume in main room.

On all my terminals, a beolink 1000, beo 4 and the master control panel it's the same behaviour.

Is there no B&O technician on this forum, or perhaps someone that recognises this? I can't be the only one that has ever encountered this, I can imagine.

Maybe i'm way off here, but are the batteries of the terminal okay ?
Reason i ask is that perhaps the terminal (with low battery power) sends a code similar to "RESET"
when you press SOUND or STATUS.

Just guessing....

I checked it all! It seems to me like it is some sort of programming or software issue.

When I turn on the system and I press SOUND or STATUS, the volume drops at once, as if the MCL 2 AV doesn't amplify anymore. Then I can turn up the sound to normal level.

Clutching at straws now - have you checked the MCL plugs to you main system are in the correct sockets? I doubt it would work at all if not though!

I just realised I am using a mkIII cable, which is not fully wired. Could this be a problem?

My MCL doen't have those potentiometers.

I tried another MCL 2 AV that was lying around and it gave the some behaviour.

Could the MCL 2P do strange things?

There are a variety of cables available - some only carry the signal whereas others have all 8 pins wired which include switching and lots of shielding. I always use fully wired given the choice. However the first thing to check is the wiring to the MCL2AV. RTake the cover off and check all the connection blocks. Also make sure the speaker power potentiometer is right up to max - (this is really just for passive operation but might have an effect - I don't know) This is used to limit the volume if using passive speakers - it may not be in your version - this seems to be mainly US market ones.

Could the powerlink cable be a problem? I don't know exactly what you mean with fully wired.

The MCL2P is just a power amplifier. The varaible volume work is done by the MCL2AV which takes the variable line level of the MCL and then has a pre-amplifier. This allows independent volume control to a point - if the MCL volume is either very low or very high, then either you will have limited range in the link room or you will affect the main room. This is what the 12dB bit is about. There is a long explanation in the MCL2 set up guide. Are you using the proper fully wired powerlink cable? I would suggest that the problem lies with the MCL2AV - check the connections inside.

That would be the Xtra Active Speaker Kit, which should work normally.
What remains is the MCL2P; anyone with more information regarding the
differences between a MCL2P and a ML/MCL-converter ?

Maybe the type of MCL2AV has something to do with it,
is it an Xtra-tv-kit or a Xtra Active Speaker Kit ?
(with/without 2-way transceiver)

Other possibility is the MCL2P;
the PCG keeps mentioning ML/MCL-converter, used as MCL2P.
Perhaps this (newer) ML-MCL converter treats things differently from a MCL2P,
which is "only" an amplifier.

Yes, I know the Master control panel has limited functionality. It says Beolink on the back of the beomaster.

Maybe I am gonna try another MCL 2 AV to see if it has something to do with that.

There are no other repliers with good ideas, unfortunately
