What i did was i opened up my Set top box and detached the IR receiver, soldered longer wires to the PCB and had the ir receiver peeking out the bottom of my TV unit, out of site. Cost me nothing.

Only set back is no Beo4 use, still use a second remote to operate the tv to change channels (sigh)

Hi:

As said I only have used one with a video sender. Would the extender wire have to be plugged into the back of the box or would the sticky blocks provide the contact required to extend the signal?

I believe the Virgin box (not that I'd ever even seen one) would work with a generic extender using its own remote.

A Beo4 can't control it anyway without additional hardware like something from IRtrans or Lintronic, so the usage would be the same as if you had the box located somewhere visible - you'll still need the Virgin remote for changing channels.

Hi all:

I have only used an IR extender once and this was in conjunction with a video sender so whilst I understand the principle is the same I need to know if this would work in practice:

I am intending to mount an MX4000 on the wall of my mother-in-law's house. Underneath which there is a built in corner cupboard. I want to "hide" the virgin box in the cupboard and control this with an IR extender using either the virigin remote or the Beo4. How would I go about doing this?
