Some versions of the RL60 speakers had a different design that did not have this issue.

The RL60.2 speakers use a plastic bass port (if I'm not mistaken) and wouldn't require this procedure.

That, or, maybe a previous owner already repaired them for you?

I haven't noticed any audible problems also when I shake the speakers I can't here anything loose, so by that do I assume all is OK? They are 'old' and from what I've read, foam rot is inevitable at this age.

Or isn't it?

Re: Project: Refoaming ABR on RL60 speakers. What a great project and a big thanks for all the excellent photos and the explanation of the work.
Although I don’t think mine need doing (but they are 20 years old!), it
may now give me the courage to open them up and possibly do mine!
Thanks again.

The entire project went pretty smoothly and I documtend and wrote up the entire process on my blog.

See the full process and pictures here.

They sound much, much better now than before, and also much better than the other speaker which has yet to undergo the treatment. I found some carpet underlay at Home Depot which I think was a pretty good replacement for the original foam, but I think I'll always be on the lookout for something better. Anyone have any ideas?

Anyway, comments much appreciated here, or on the blog and thanks for the valuable resource this community is!
