My new Beovision 7-40 MK IV has a possibility I haven't seen anyone mentioning, which is to set Film Mode to "Auto". Is that an option, or is simply "Off" the best bet?

Also, can anyone tell me what is the latest software release. My set shipped from BnO a week or two ago. Can I expect it to have the latest software?

On my pS3 there is also the 24fps cinema mode and i hate it, it looks fake. Once I disabled, it worked a treat.

But if your tele also has a special mode, I would turn it off.

They call it cinema mode, but i never knew in cinemas for it to be like that (plastic).

Hi guys!

I've just bought a BV8-40, which I believe has a really great picture, and I love my new tv!!

But when it had to show peoples faces up close, it couldn't follow the movement and it showed a kind "mud" around the object. And I was getting pretty tired of this after a week or so. Even on Bluray movies this "mud" came along! [:'(]

But then I found this discussion about the option "Film Mode" on the BV8-40, and to me it has worked wonders!!! So thanks a million you guys!! Great forum!!

Could you check these things (I don't think they apply to the BV8, but you can try):

Press MENU and then MENU again. Highlight OPTIONS and go to the 'customer service menu' by clicking your RED button and then GO within 3 seconds.

Within the 'customer service menu', select PICTURE ADJUSTMENTS. Within here, change sharpness (I have mine at 18) and change FILM JUDDER CANCEL to OFF (it's AUTO as default).

This 'film judder cancel' seems to be the new film mode. When it is on or auto, the picture lacks depth and looks a bit comical.

Ok, so I watched Valkyrie last night, the 1st 10 minutes with film mode on, too clean looked a bit plastic, also had the shimmer effect around some objects. Then I turned off the film mode and at last, the picture is brilliant, the graininess is back, everything still looks very detailed, but now has depth... It’s hard to explain, maybe I have devalued the picture but it’s more believable now.

OK managed to access the menu...Turned off film mode & will test it later on a hired Blu Ray film, fingers crossed. Would love to know what the other settings are in the service menu?? Very tempting to play around, dont worry, wont touch them

I have tested it and the combination shall be RED then press GO (NOT RED and GO at the same time)

Hi guys,

I have been told that B&O are testing a software fix at the moment, but I will try disabling the 'film mode' as above. I will let you know if this works.

Although I have ordered the BV7-40 as a replacement which will arrive mid June here in Australia.

This software update was made for ML-Gateway only...

BeoVision 8-40 is now Master Link Gateway (Type 1798-1799) compatible.

It's not on my BV8-26 and I saw the BV8-40 again, at the weekend, with another Blu-ray movie, and there was no soap-opera effect. Looked no different to the same Blu-ray playing on the BV9! I don't think this is a problem with the BV8 en-masse.

You can also try the "Film Mode ON/OFF" via the customer service menu:

The menu can be accesed by pressing RED + GO while the cursor is placed on the CONNECTIONS field.

Monitor Information Adjustments -> Film Mode

This problem reminds me of my first Beovision4 50" that came with a Beosystem 1. The problem is the picture enhancement that tends to overdo sharpening and killing the depth of field. No problems with TV channels, but DVD movies were rendered like soap operas. I've seen this effect on some Phillips plasmas and didin't like it either. Switching to movie mode didn't really help. Luckily I could later switch to Beosystem 3 and the problem was solved.

It would be very sad if B&O continued to use this soap-opera picture enhancement in their BV8. What is your dealer telling you about this issue ?

This might be an Quality Update for this issue mentioned above?
