I'll make up some new cables to the Mk3 spec and try them again with the Lab 3s!

The Beolab 4000 require a PowerLink Mk1 or Mk2 cable, while the Beolab 3 require a PowerLink Mk3 cable. This is due to the difference of power amplifier (IcePower Class D versus Call A/B). In the Powerlink MK3 cable, the Pin 7 must be connected to the ground. Here the Mk3 connection :

Pin 1 - Not used

Pin 2 - Audio Ground - Screen

Pin 3 - Left Audio - Brown wire

Pin 4 - ON/OFF - Yellow wire

Pin 5 - Right Audio - Green wire

Pin 6 - Not used

Pin 7 - Data ground - Blue wire

Pin 8 - Not used

Regards,

I've just moved into a new home and am installing my Beolab 3s and Beolab 4000s. I've made up some Powerlink cables using some 8-pin DIN connectors and some Cat7 SSTP ethernet cable that I already had. The cables carry audio nicely, but the speakers don't turn themselves off when I power down my sources.

I found some advice on an old thread at the DIY Audio forum, (http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=35464), and, based on that and the BeoWorld technical guide, here's what I've done:

Pin 1 - ON/OFF - Blue ethernet wire

Pin 2 - Audio Ground - Ethernet screen

Pin 3 - Left Audio - Brown ethernet wire

Pin 4 - ON/OFF - Yellow ethernet wire

Pin 5 - Right Audio - Green ethernet wire

Pin 6 - Data - not connected

Pin 7 - Data ground - not connected

Pin 8 - APHC - not connected

I've only connected one wire in each of the ethernet cable pairs (there isn't room in the pins to solder in both wires in each pair). I've also not (yet!) connected the APHC - I'm not sure if I should do or not.

I'm stumped as to why the speakers don't turn off properly, since both of the ON/OFF pins are wired correctly and I've checked my soldering with a multimeter.

I'd be really grateful for any advice as to how to solve the problem!

Regards,

Simon.
