Good morning,

if only the coil is misaligned due to overheating (how many neighbours heard your music before the speaker was defective? ), you can try to fix it with a hair dryer - yes, you've read right.

Remove the speaker chassis out of the Beolab 5, than you have to feel from which side of the chassis this noise is coming by gently(!) pushing the chassis back and forth while it's lying on a flat table with the magnet facing down to the surface.

When you feel and here where the sound comes from, you use the hairdryer to heat up the part of the speaker coming out of the magnet (which contains the coil) very carefully. It shouldn't get too hot! While heating up, you gently move and push the speaker chassis with your fingers into center position till the sliding noise is gone!

Now don't move the chassis until it's realy cooled down.

Reinstall the chassis into your Beolab and try if it helped.

Sounds like the voice coil has gone off alignment.

I've never heard of any problems with damaged cones in BeoLab 5s. I'm almost certain it'll need to go back to B&O to be properly re-calibrated though. It's not like some of the other BeoLabs where you just turn a little pot - all digital here!

Yes I think you will need a new one.

But the BL5 will have to be calibrated to the new speaker. There is an eeprom that has to be changed... (?)

There is no noise when I press on the center of the speaker.
The noise is the same as when I play music, but I have to turn the sound level up to about 70, before the noise is there, depending on the music.

I think I will order a new unit (har en kontakt i Struer).

I`m afraid you are right. Do you notice the same noise if you (gently) press in the center of the speaker? And is there a similiar noise when playing music?

I don`t know the price of the speaker but at one of my BL5s the whole electronics module was changed. Price was about 250 Euro (omkring 2000Dkr)

I managed to remove the cover and if I gently give the speaker a push 2 cm. above the center, I can hear a scratch noise, if I do the same 2 cm. beneath the center, no noise.

I think this indicate that the speaker Is broken, is that the correct conclusion?
Does anyone know the price of this speaker unit?

First you have to remove the black plate on top of the bass unit. Below that plate you will find five screws. When you have removed them you can pull up the acoustic lens unit. Be careful: You need to disconnect the wires for the tweeters. Now you can pull up the front cover.

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the front cover on a BeoLab 5 speaker?
I’m afraid that the upper bas speaker unit is broken :-(
