no...

and based on the other posts, well... seems like there are lots of reasons for 2-way...

if they are not acceptable... call us geeks! but not wrong!

Re: Why should B&O come with a two way remote ?

Exactly, with large music library 2 way is not an option.

But in addition, let's not forget that B&O want to get into the Home automation market, and therefore there is a need to display various information relative to your house (room temperature, etc.).

Because the most relevant place to operate the system is the place where one is enjoying the music (e.g. sofa or link room), irrespective of where the hardware is located.

Why should an audio system come with a two-way remote? Well, with remote controls and digital music libraries, there is no need to physically approach the system (i.e. no need to push buttons on the system, no need to load CDs in the player). Therefore the most relevant place to display information is not the system itself, but the place where one is enjoying music, i.e. the remote.

Now, why is it important to display information at all? In the past, because from time to time one needed to know the status of the system (e.g. source, track number, radio station RDS name). Today, because navigating large digital music libraries is virtually not possible without a display.

After the introduction of remote controls, multi-room BeoLink and digital music libraries, two-way remotes are the ultimate step to physically set us free from the central system hardware and to concentrate on the music wherever we want to enjoy it.

Re: Why should B&O come with a two way remote ?

In response to the initial question, why does B&O do a lot of things? Why does B&O have all this wild styling? Why does B&O have one of the fastest CD changers in the world? In my opinion its the cool factor, plain and simple. I like the unecessary gizmos personally.

Re: Why should B&O come with a two way remote ?

tournedos:

I had my BS6500 for a while before I decided that I need a two-way remote (anyone who owns one knows that the feedback from the actual units is pretty sparse...). Later I bought an MCP6500 and loved it. It is still on my computer desk and I use it often to check the time, if nothing else (not the mention which radio station is playing, or which track the CD has reached - I can't see the front panels from where I sit, not that they'd tell me much anyway!).

Then, I bought a Beolink 7000 for the sole reason that it must be the silliest gadget ever sold to mankind, bar none. I love it! Call me a geek if you want

I think the time is right for bringing back a fully working 2 way remote, especially for Audio systems. I never understood B&O to invest lots of money to develop something like the beolink7000 and then dropping it, just like they did with putting displays in speakers.

The BL7000 was admittedly really more of a gadget than practical. It's giant size (and pricetag) did not help it's cause so it remained a tabletop unit like and mcp instead of a true handheld remote. All said and done it was waaaaaay ahead of it's time and a marvel of engineering and design.

Having owned both pentas and BL7000 (had to sell all my B&O gear because I had to move oversees) I now miss these functions dearly. Displays could be build-in behind the speaker cloth and a good 2 way remote in this digital age is a necessity and should be part of B&O's repertoire without question. I had a play with a Beosound5 a couple of weeks ago and I found it seriously lacking the use of a good 2-way remote.
I sure would consider buying a BS5 (wonderfull machine in itself) if this feature would become available.

I do not like the beo5 remote in any way (very hard to handle imho and I keep dropping it / knocking it over... and never mind having to hire a 'keith' to program every change) So I hope they base one on either an iphone type of format or even better.. a beo4 style remote which would just be fantastic.

Technically there are no more obstacles. The Iphone proves it can be done fairly well (though can sure be improved on...) not forgetting it's primary function is still being a phone and never really designed to be a remote control.

Regards

Re: Why should B&O come with a two way remote ?

I had my BS6500 for a while before I decided that I need a two-way remote (anyone who owns one knows that the feedback from the actual units is pretty sparse...).
The one other thing which was great was being able to set a timer for video recording with out being in the room or turning on the VX7000.

I had the 7000 system in the dining room, the VX 7000 in the lounge connected to a 46" widescreen back projector and a MX4000 in the bedroom and with speakers in the bathroom connected too at the time. on a link...And I also had a 5000 remote that was two way, which was nice to use which then went on to become the beo 4 we know today with out the two way use/feedback if I'm right?

Thats the ONE THING I MISS with B&O is TWO WAY! And I'm shure lots of other users do too!

Bring back two way remote B&O....Thats one of the things your were famous for and way ahead of others in your time!

Re: Why should B&O come with a two way remote ?

Actually the one thing I really valued in the Beolink 7000 when used with the Beosystem 7000 was having it in the bedroom so I could change the wake up time without going back downstairs having forgotten to change it on special occasions. Being able to select certain tracks on CDs or even tapes to go to sleep with was also nice.

Re: Why should B&O come with a two way remote ?

burantek:

oh, i don't know... as my eyesight gets progressively worse, it is kind of nice to have 2-way right in your hand... even w/ the system in the same room!

i suppose the real advantage is likely the programming that it opens up, and the simple Q/A that they offer when doing so...

As far as I can see, this is the only use for 2 way remote. All other reasons are for the geeks!!

oh, i don't know... as my eyesight gets progressively worse, it is kind of nice to have 2-way right in your hand... even w/ the system in the same room!

So what do you need to see on the non geek 2 way remote?

Re: Why should B&O come with a two way remote ?

joeyboygolf:

I love mine. My parents still has a BC2300 2-way that I sometimes use them with. The BL7000 actually had quite a lot info on the screen.

BS 5 needs a two-way remote desperately.
