I just payed 1250 euro for a black one ( dealer ) with same stand out of 2001.

I missed a simular one ( private ) for 800 less.

So it seems to me you did extremely well.

Due to my time window, to buy one. I couldnt find a stand like you mentioned. For as I also saw a mint blue BC1 ( favorite ). But I needed that stand desperatly for height reasons. This deal also couldnt be made.

I guess my karma is keeping dealers a float ;). Well in any case if it proves in time to be a pleasant and credible dealer when problems might arise, then it may turn out to be good cause.

So leaves me to congratulate you on your great deal. Hopes it performs well and that you will have a lot of enjoyable time with it.

Add to this an overnight ......... but the short break in glorious Galloway was worth the trip on its own!

Picked up a BC1 at the weekend from a location well off the beaten track in Scotland. Transported it 250 miles face up on blankets in the boot. Came with the most expensive/ least attractive video stand option (which I am replacing with a wall bracket.) Seller had had it disconnected from the mains and we got the 'Wait' message that isn't well covered in any of the documentation (but which I found in the forum.) Bought on trust and understanding that he would pay for a B&O call-out/ repair if there was a fault/ problem when we eventually got it working. Came back to life and allowed PIN entry after about 3 hours, although the stand and DVD drawer started responding to the Beo4 erratically about an hour before the PIN was required. Anyone know why the long 'Wait' is required: is it a recharge of an internal standby battery?

Is it right to conclude tha the concern is about the vulnerability of the bv1 front glass rather than anything to do with the CRT (or other internal components)?

As a professional engineer I guess I'm one of those people who needs the explanation of the why rather than accepting an instruction!

Sorry guys, there must be a good reason but I suspect you would need to dismantle the front of a BV1/BC1 to find out. Since I just want to get on and do the job, the why is of no importance to me. I am afraid life is too short!!

Just by chance, a customer and fellow Beoworlder, collected a BV1 from me today. He put it in the boot of his VW Golf on the prescribed angle and it was quite stable and required no strapping or padding. Job done!

***Addendum****

Spoke to Nobby last evening. He sounded not his usual self. "What's up?" says I. "I've just broken a contrast screen on a BV1" says Nobby.

"How did you manage that?" says I. "I laid it on it's front face on a hard surface" says Nobby!!*!!*!!

After purchasing and moving my Avant last summer from a friends 2nd level to our upstairs via the back of an SUV I think the £100 sounds like a bargain.

I don't see why there is an endless debate on this subject.

The BV1/BC1 is best/most conveniently/only sensibly transported on the boot floor/ back seat of a vehicle at the prescribed angle as shown and described in ALL the documentation and on the cover panel on the back of the TV. There is no other SENSIBLE way to transport the TV.

As far as the BV1/BC1 is concerned that is the end of the arguement.

The Avant is a different matter. It is very obviously best transported standing up and lashed to the side/bulkhead of a small van. All/most of the dealers have such a van so they are inclined to perpetuate what is actually a bit of a myth. None of the dealers have to struggle to carry an Avant in a car so they know little or nothing about this method of transport. They are, of course, duty bound to say that it is not recommended.

There is any amount of experience with transporting Avants on thick foam/mattress, lying on the front screen, loaded into an estate/hatchback much like a coffin in a hearse, having first removed the aluminium trim from the base. I personally have transported several this way, both DVD and VCR models, with no detrimental effects and I know that ****y transports all his in the same manner although Mr Muscle uses a VW Golf!!

If you decide to try the strung up in a net from the seat belt anchors, please can we have LOTS of pictures!!!!!

Why cause yourself grief and angst by trying to re-invent this particular "wheel"

Thanks Dave. My local dealer has also suggested off the record that face down might be OK if carefully supported, but went on to say that it should not be tried with the VCR Avant. I may yet use a van and take it upright. Although I have a capcious Saab 95 estate, ther would only be inches to spare to the sides and above whichever way up I carried the TV, and the getting it in and out would be the tricky bit (after the first tricky bit of getting it horizontal!)

I think I would really like to know why B&O say that face down is not to be contemplated with the smaller, lighter BV1/BC1.

Hi - i transported my 32" Avant on its front on a thick matress in the back of a Punto for over 120 miles and it was fine. As long as there is enough packing to support the screen and you are feeling pretty healthy to get it out the car without putting any undue strain on the circular base you should be fine. Getting it in and out of the car was a bugger though even with 2 of us!!

Is the B&O concern about not placing BV1s face down more about the risk of damage to the front glass and/or its bonding, or is it something to do with the CRT itself?

As a follow-on to the above I am now considering the possibility of using small mesh cargo netting to suspend the Avant on its back for transport. At least that way the load would be evenly distributed across the whole of the TV back and frame without risk of those sticking-out bits like the DVD player getting knocked. The netting can be tied to a sub-frame in the car or suspended directly from belt points and seat headrests. I'll report back on progress. The main question is, therefore: In view of the B&O strong instruction never to place the BC1/BV1 face down (service manual), does this apply to all the B&O CRT TVs and is the best way to carry an Avant (if not upright) carefully supported and lying on its back? If on its back, would there be a reason not to have the TV horizontal (rather than as per the BC1/BV1 service manual illustration of having it lie tilted to one side on its rear case?)
