Yes. they are fragile little devils. I've cleaned it well, but as you say, it could well be knickered....

That said, 90% of zebra strip problems are because it is not connecting to the LED glass. As the Beocom LCD contacts are metal, I tried holding the contacts of the screen directly on the pads on the board hoping for a flicker to help diagnose the zebra strip, but got not a single flicker....

Not conclusive, by any means, but....

I am confident it is only the LCD/zebra that's playing up, as the rest of it gives the impression it is working well...if only I could see the screen!

These shouldn't be handled so dropping it in water may well have goosed it.

I had thought about that, but if the main PCB is ok and it is just the LCD that's gone, a replacement LCD should turn up (perhaps on Beoworld ) for a good deal less than the £50-or-so upgrade kit - assuming I can persuade the dealer to sell me one of course....

Seems a shame to bin a perfectly good board - I hate throwing things away...or am I just a skinflint?

Re: Beocom 6000 - advice needed.

If you know the exact serquence of keys you need to press you might be OK, bit that will be hrad wothout a Mk1 6000 to use as a template. Probably best to but one of the upgrade kits from a dealer.

I've just bought what I assume is a Mk1 (no earphone socket) Beocom 6000 + table charger + PSTN from German eBay.

This was all 1 item from the same vendor. It was listed as faulty, because it got dropped in the bath.

Having got it here, and letting it charge, it seems to be working, or at least as much as I can tell, as the LCD is blank.

It powers up, the wheel produces clicks, the backlight LEDs light, sleep, and light again with wheel movement, and the phone beeps and flashes the red LED on the back - presumably telling me it is not registered to a PSTN, but the LCD remains completely blank.

I've had it apart, cleaned all the contacts for the LCD with isopropyl alcohol, and same result.

Is it going to be possible to register to my (working fine with my Beocom 2) PSTN, or the (presumably working fine) PSTN (identical, but German) that came with the phone WITHOUT being able to see a thing on the screen? If it can register, and it works ok sans LCD, I can use it as a bedroom phone until I organise a replacement LCD or board.

Any/all help gratefully received!
