You guys have been so helpful in figuring this out.

Maybe somebody can figure out exactly which belt is closest to the B&O original.

I just like to add that I've just recovered my RL140's with a brilliant result. Did get valuable tips from other members!

For some reason my mind keeps saying Fiat Uno...but I could be wrong...was at least two years ago!

Top fettling means doing an excellent job of modifying one product to take on the role of another - and I agree - excellent job. All you have to do is remember the car!

i was a bit skeptical that it wouldn't look right...

before seeing the pic that is!

i am really impressed w/ how close it is to the original, a bit more spacing between the ridges, but WOW!

I have used a car timing belt successfully as a replacement. You turn the belt inside to get the ridges to be on the outside. You will never be able to get the exact replica but I did get one very close and think it actually might even look nicer and they are guarenteed never to break again! I use a timing belt which was the right thickness but was too wide so I had it cut to the right width and therefore one Belt gave me two belts for the BM1700. Only thing is you have to make sure that its cut 100% straight otherwise they will go skew when moving them. Also the belt must be very slighty thicker than the original as the new belt won't have the the flat guides on the side the fit underneath to keep it straight, so hence why the belt has to be slightly thicker so that it doesn't slide underneath. Also have to make sure it is fitted 100% straight as well. Mine has been working flawlessly for ages.

Common problem I am afraid. The defunct Beomuse site had an article about replacing the rollers with an electronic set of buttons. A timing belt would seem a good idea but the thickness could be the problem. I think a tight inner tube could well be more successful.

Beomaster 1600/1700 belts

I am trying to figure out how to replace one of the two belts that adjust the sound and FM receiver on my Beomaster 1600. (I understand the BEO 1700 is the same except for color.) The belts are black ribbed rubber slides about 30mm wide and 425mm long. The rib tooth pitch on the original is about 4mm.

I saw a thread somewhere that says a Honda timing belt works, but the poster did not have a particular model number. I am thinking of fabricating something with tire inner tube rubber or something similar.

Any ideas? Thanks.
