They are 1998 models - not in too bad a state - hopefully its just the tweeters as they did sound really muted and muffled.

I've been quoted £210 by my local dealer for parts and labour - assuming nothing else is found when they open them up..... everything crossed..... All in I suppose a little over £1k for a nice pair of 8000s isn't too bad.

I've payed for mine year 1999 around 1550 GBP from resailer, they have few scratches on the back, but I don't mind because they sound apsolutley fantastic !!!

At first I was thought that I've payed to much, but believe me on the end they worth every penny ....

I had party two weeks ago and they work for almost 6 hours, and they survived ....

I was amassed, how hot was back aluminum case....

My point is, sometimes is worth to pay little more from trusted dealer and to be calm ....

You've bought them at a "trade" price and they are in typical "trade" or eBay condition by the sound of it. A trader would now spend some money on them, so that's what you will have to do.

Ask your friendliest local dealer for a quote. I would guess £250-300 which will still make them a cheap pair of speakers.

Don't feel too bad the tweeter will not cost too much, and it will be cheaper still if you can replace them yourself...

Got them home and they sound muffled. I've got one of my 6000s and one 8000 working and the 6000 blows it away for top end and clarity - same for both 8000s - is this the tweeter on both. They have been in storage for the last 9 yrs - they cleaned up ok but don't sound fantastic..... If it is the tweeter how much would B&O charge to replace both? Gutted - just wanted to swop them with my 6000s and plug and play!!

The seller has described them as in good working order so i will be insisting on a return if they do not work when i get them home. I'm going to view from a meeting in my region so don't really want to leave my Beosound 3000 in my boot all day just in case (knowing my luck anyway!!) Will be taking my power cables from my 6000s to see if they turn on when powered up but unfortunately wont be able to hear them until i get them home.....

At that price they are a bit of a gift horse! If..........

You can't do much about scratches on the bodies. If you can live with them then they are OK. Cosmetically, the frets are quite an expense so you need to be able to live with those as well, otherwise you may as well pay more money for a decent pair!

I must admit to never having any trouble with woofers on 8000's. 6000's yes but not 8000's. The tweeter is a different story but they are around £20 each for a new one so I don't worry about it too much.

I have only had one 8000 that refused to work at all and that turned out to be a burned out mains transformer. Less than £100 to repair.

I don't mind at all Graham - he said they could be mine for £800 cash. They are not 100% cosmetically - a few scratches here and there mainly to the backs of the aluminium as they will be situated where the backs are not highly visible so as long as they are not too bad i think they will be a nice upgrade to my 6000s which i hope to get £600+ for as they are newer than the 8000s. I just don't like buying speakers when not having heard them.
