It appears to not be doing it at the moment so I am going with the cheaper diagnosis that it is the connections.

Thanks for all your help, I am hoping that it was a false alarm.

Check yuor connetions(scart?) between your avant and your freewiw box

old avants have trouble with the picture tube try to bump a little hard on the top of your avnt and see if the picture flickers

regards

I'd definitely check another source/lead etc before reading last rites to your Avant. I once was asked about a ripple-type picture problem, to discover it was nothing more than the transformer in the VCR - the magnetic flux was wobbling the TV picture ever so slightly at the bottom. I swapped it & the DVD around and all was well....

It may well be your Avant is poorly, but I'd certainly look at other possibilities first.

Good luck.

Avant flicker

Hi guys:

I have just noticed that when watching Freeview on my '96 Avant yesterday that the screen was ever so slightly flickering, almost like a very, very mild straight ripple effect at the bottom of the screen (when I say ripple effect I mean that the ripple occurs in a straight line from left to right as opposed to in ever increasing circles from a centre point).

The Freeviw box is not expensive and the scart lead ditto. I haven't done any further tests. However from the information given does it look like my beloved TV is dying? Also, as it sits in a shared living room is it going to di quietly or quite possibly burn out and be a fire hazzard!

Thanks

Graham
