It's worth mentioning that B&O are about to bring out a new Subwoofer. Alledged to be cheaper than the Beolab2, it is tulip shaped and can be wall mounted!

Can't wait to see the first pictures.

PS White Beosound 9000! Lucky you!

The other secret (!) is the crossover point/filter is often set way too high, so the sub is shouting out all these low-mid frequencies as well, which our ears can pinpoint. The result is a nasty muddy mess, which chav boy racers in their silly cars like, but to anyone who still has ears that work it is an awful noise.

With the exception of some bass drums, very low bass guitar, orchestral bass and some synths, musical instruments (and voices) are pitched above the level that a sub should be reproducing, and so you should almost never get very much coming out of a sub with music - only in movies should you really be aware of it, and even then it should not dominate, just add.

The exception is these systems like Bose Acoustimass etc where the satellite speakers are tweeters with a bit of mid, and the sub isn't so sub, as it has to make up for the lack of mid-bass in the system. Some people like them - and that's their choice - but for me they totally destroy any natural-sounding soundstage. They're ok to watch movies on, and casually listen to music, but if you're serious then IMHO they are pretty hopeless...

Just my few rubles...

Re: BeoSound 9000 & beolab 4500 & Beolab 2

Thanks for the very quick answers. I am busy bidding (German Ebay) and will look for speakers with all cables etc. After following a few auctions on ebay I have noticed that the Beolab 4500s are selling for about 650€ - 800€. Mind you I will not go above 650 as then i would prefer the older Beolab 4000 speakers (for about 1.000€, ebay) - i found their sound so far most pleasent to my ears. What ever happens there will always be space in my house for either of these speakers :-)..

I will ask my local dealer for a demo before buying the subwoofer

I am not a lover of Subwoofers when listening to music. The bass they produce is fuzzy. Fine for DVD's if you like watching that sort of thing but not for music. Mind you, you just wouldnt believe the number of hi-fi setups I see which are set to minimum treble, maximum base and loudness on!

Is it my ears or the others?????

Re: BeoSound 9000 & beolab 4500 & Beolab 2

Hi rob

I am thinking of buying Beolab 4500 panel speakers (ebay) and a beolab 2 (white new) for bass.

Is there any reason this set up will not work?

Are there any usefull tips that i should consider?

Thanks
