You write that the numbers 6 and 9 do not cease the dialtone and this shows that 6 and 9 is not recognized by the service provider. When pressing the numbers, a DTMF tone is sent to the service provider. The tone consist of 2 frequencies and I would have expected that 3 and # would not work either (indicating that the DTMF circuitry has failed).

The other possibility is that the numbers 6 and 9 are failing mechanically, but since they do make a sound, it seems that they are working.

Can you try out the different keys to recognize that they all transmit two tones? It's is not that hard as one tone is kept when you move horisontally on the keyboard and the other tone is kept when moving vertically on the keyboard. If you notice that the numbers 3,6,9 and # only transmits one tone, then there is some electrical problem with your phone.

Best,
Burnix

Re: Beocom 2500 not working...

Hi,

If you ring it with your mobile, then pick up on the Beocom, can you talk to yourself? (I spend a long time doing that - you get the best answers )

If the Beocom doesn't ring, and you get a dialtone in the handset but not the speaker when you press the <speaker> button, I'd definitely say there is a fault with your Beocom, in addition to the fault regarding the other keys not being recognised..

Not sounding good, I'm afraid...

The details on the label are as follows:

Beocom 2500

B&O 1073044

Serial No. 1073044 85825734

Also, I just tried ringing it with my mobile and it doesn't ring either. I assume this would be because the speaker isn't working.

Re: Beocom 2500 not working...

Hmmm interesting one...

With regard to changing the cable - Beocoms/Beotalks don't like "standard" cables - I figured this out after lots of headscratching. They use a different wiring, and that may be your problem, or at least that part of it whereby you don't hear anything on the speaker, and the phone beeps are not recognised. But....

...this doesn't explain why the dialtone stops when you press some keys, but not others. Also, if the dialtone stops, when you press some numbers (ie: 1) then pressing 1 multiple times should kick up a "number not recognised" voice message from the exchange.

What's the origin of your phone? Do you know if it is an Australian issue, or has it been imported there? it could be it is making the wrong type of beeps... I know not all countries have the same DTMF frequencies, but not any details, so if anyone else can help......?

Failing something like this, it sounds like you may have a faulty Beocom, but I'd certainly look at the cable first, as my 2500 will not work at all with a "standard" cable...

Re: Beocom 2500 not working...

Hi Ray,

Thanks for your reply. I put brand new batteries in the phone. I changed the cable that goes from the phone to the wall with one that definitely works. Neither of these actions changed the situation. The exchange is the standard one we have here that works with all phones on the market here.

The numbers make a beeping sound when pressed. When any number is dialled the dialtone stops and I assume the phone is then waiting for the rest of the number to be dialled. This seems normal. The numbers 6 and 9 do not cease the dialtone when pressed, but they do make a beeping sound. Also, the Speaker button when pressed displays the icon on the screen but I cannot hear anything form the speaker.

Do you hear beeps when you press the buttons? If you do, I would suggest perhaps the cable from phone to the wall is either non-original, or damaged. If you don't, then I'd suggest the phone is damaged (or are the batteries ok?)

One other thought...just checking is your telephone exchange one that accepts DTMF/TouchTone (beeps)? I know most do, but I was very confused recently by a phone that woudn't dial but otherwise seemed fine - the exchange I was on at that time was Loop Disconnect (clicks) only, and this was a DTMF phone.....

Please let us know.

The problem I have with the phone is that it's not registering the buttons to make a call. I lift the handset and get a dialtone. When I dial the number, nothing happens. The numbers register on the screen, but don't seem to activate the call. I obviously don't want to throw it away, but my local B&O service centre charges a minimum $99 fee just to look at it so that's not really viable either...
