Be aware however that although unrelated problems (probably) mine broke shortly afterwards, I think the power unit has failed on mine.

Graham, you are spot on amigo !

I took out the VCR scart lead, I used the hoover ( with the nozzle on ) and sucked out a fair bit of dust and stuff, could not believe my eyes, carefully re-attached the scart at both ends, and viola - VCR picture back, thank you gents for your time.

This maybe an insult to everyone's intelligence. However, have you checked the scart connection at the back (the one with the metal retaining clip over it) and ensured that this is plugged in properly. This happened with my machine - sound but no picture. Took the cable out, blew it, pushed it back and it worked fine. That is until recently it broke all together and now there is no power to it.

I have a spare VCR mech to replace the old one in mine but I haven't built up the courage to take my TV apart for risk of breaking it further. If you pay the postage you could have my new old mech. However, I cannot guarantee it working as I salvaged it out of an old set with a broken tube. The owner assured me that it worked the last time they used it however.

put a tape in and just leave it the longer the better It worked for me on an old player a while back

Hi ouverture

Its often that videocleaner tape don't do the trick if your are handy remove the backpanel remember to unplug the tv and unmount the vcr unit and use a coffeefilter dipped in propylalcohol and hold it against the videodrum and carefull turn it around clockwise.if this do not work or you are not able to do so you have to use a b&o specialist.

I think you are right, the video tape head cleaner did not do the trick, ummm, not looking forward to calling my B&O dealer tomorrow, the whole mechanism + labour, that will be hundreds [:'(]

you could purchase a tape cleaner, I used to work in a video shop many years ago and we just left the cassette playing but to be honest buy the sounds of it your heads maybe shot anyway!! It cost nothing to run a cassette for a few hours

I think B&O will just replace the video mechanism so it could cost a few quid

if I buy a VHS tape cleaner - do they work ?? Is it worth a try ?

if that does not do it, is replacing the tape heads a DIY job, or B&O engineer to visit home ?

Sounds to me like the heads in the player, one trick is leave the video playing and see if the cassette will clean off the dirt if not I think it will be new heads!

Avant VCR Model

put a video tape in the Avant and can hear the movie sound track, but no picture, have had a fiddle and cannot fathom it out, tried some other tapes, same thing, tried recording from a blank take, can record the audio but no picture, weird :-(

anybody have some ideas that I can try to fix it !
