http://www.bang-olufsen.com/masterlink_gateway

You would need one of these, plus a computer and a Beo5.

You could add a Beo5 command, which would be passed onto the ethernet cable by the ML gateway, received by the computer, which would in turn send commands for every room to switch on.

Probably a little bit overkill for a feature that is not really needed...

Re: Turning all linkrooms on from one room?

Everyones comments about this situation are correct, you cannot switch on all linked rooms from one room by user action.

However you may be asking yourself, technically why this is the case, the answer is that B&O's Masterlink protocol uses what they call a "Lock Manager Protocol" which uses a "KEY" which any product must hold before an action can take place for that product. There is only one key, and if another product needs it, then the key must be requested on the bus and the product currently with the key passes it to the new product asking for it.

Everyone knows that the Masterlink must have either a Video Master or Audio Master for the system to work, but why ?, the answer is to create the "key" on power up. So, you ask, what if I have an Audio Master and Video Master on the same Masterlink, do I get two keys ? the answer is NO, there is only ever one key. On power up the Video Master (if it exists) will create a key and after a delay of around 2 seconds from power up, an Audio Master will check to see if a key exists and if not, it create one. ONLY a Video Master or Audio Master can created a Masterlink Lock Manager key.

However when you press the Standby for two seconds to turn everything off it does not use the Lock Manager, and it effectively sends a reset command which all products pickup from the bus and use to switch themselves

Re: Turning all linkrooms on from one room?

Ehlerz:

Ok, just weird as it is possible to turn everything off. Say you are throwing a huge party with people in all rooms and you want the music played allover without having to activate every linkroom manually.

Actually this ix a feature, not a bug...meant to preserve harmony in the household. If it were possible to activate every room in the house, then it's possible to do so by accident. How many times will your loving spouse allow you to awaken her (or a sleeping child) before the trouble starts?

Thanks in advance
