if you cannot find a kompatible picture tube eks philips the original tube was to my knowledge a hitachi tube

and can still be bought from b&0 probaly from a dealer, but i my opinion it's too expencive and it has to be fitted

in the chassis wich is no easy task, and some adjustments must be made og can only be done by a trained

technichian.my suggestion is to find one of the rf (real flat) type eks on ebay or what you have where you

live and be sure that the picture tube is ok.sorry about your loss.but prices er constanly going down but

still the avant is a superb tv especially the rf type 100 hz

kind regards

In your experience would you not bother with a replacement tube heater? When the engineer looked at it, the tube heater was not glowing therefore not driving the tube. Is it worth going down this route in the first instance?

i am sorry to hear about your picturetube that what i guessed

when i tould you about fatal trouble with old avant's but hopefully

its something else but i doubt it.an original tube is all too expensive

but som older philips 28" widesrceen tv's uses a kompatible picture tube

kind regards

Yes the top display is showing the channel numbers correctly relating to the channels.

When the engineer took the back off yesterday, the tube heater was not glowing - everything else was sounding as should be.

I am just waiting for a price on the cost of repair to see if it is worth it.

Regards

Please explain more accurate about your problem when you use the remote

are the topdisplay showing channel numbers .Many older avant's had a fatal

trouble with the picture tube ,and you may have bumped it during transportation

greetings

It was working perfectly on Friday but since we moved it yesterday to our house, we now have no picture - but sound is coming from the TV but not the VCR.

It is a 81/03 50htz mark 4.

I'm in a real mess now cos I can't give it back not working and now have no TV!

If anyone could throw any light as to what might have caused the picture to fail and if its worth repairing.

Many thanks
