I guessed it was the contraction of some materials as well.

Not sure abt climates, as I had those sounds when I was living in hot & humid Asia and still have them here in freezing Europe.

Never had those noises when the set was 1-2 years old, but now that it's like 5 years old, it's making them. Signs of old age?

Are you guys in a cold room when this sound occurs?

Re: Beosound 1 - Funny noises

Mine cracks sometimes after I turn it off after I've been playing it for a while. I have always assumed it is some parts contracting (after having expanded from the heat generated by the unit) similar to what a car does after you turn it off. It is sometimes quite loud, but it has never really bothered me.

I can understand a service department having difficulty reproducing the problem. It doesn't happen always (at least for me), and probably depends on how long the unit is played as well as the temperature of the room.

Anyway, i got rid of mine, it was NZ $3K and a sanyo stereo for $100 doesnt seem to make odd noises...

Re: Beosound 1 - Funny noises

Dave:

My Beosound 1 makes funny sounds, as if something's cracking. This happens after I play a CD and turn it off. Sounds like it comes from the back. Not from the speakers for sure.

Any similar experiences?
