It is to bad that B&O abandoned the s/pdif output on their CD players after the BS-9000.

Maybe the CD-department had given to up the hope of/didn't know about the future launch of BL5's? Sad, I agree.

I can though still remember using the S/PDIF once - prior to the launch of BL5s. I ONCE programmed a sequence of songs from 6 CDs in the BS9000 and made a CD on my Philips CD player/recorder. Very impractical ... even those days.

Can only confirm what's been written here. Have used my CD6500 with my BL5s, with excellent results. When the speakers detect the digital signal they immediately switch to that - I went through the Beomaster 6500 for PL, and that unit controlled the other settings.

My understanding from the Beogram CD 6500 manual is that the digital OUT on those cd-players was for "future use" - but must have been for a product that wasn't released. (Until the BL5s!)

All correct, save one detail from Chris, so I'll clear that up. Firstly you must always use a fully wired PowerLink cable to the BeoLab 5's (should be supplied with them), and when set up properly (option 0 I think; but I haven't had my morning coffee yet), they will take all of their cues from the BeoVision 9, power, volume, input source, everything. Just remember that when using the digital input you have volume ONLY, no tone controls at all.

That ought to be a fabulous set-up!!

Sure it will work. When I got my BL5s, I connected them to my AV9000 via Powerlink and digitally to my CD7000. The BS7000 was masterlinked via BL converter to the AV9000. Everything worked perfect. Powerlink is used when you are listening to RADIO, A.TAPE, TV, SAT, DVD (stereo or suround).

It`s possible to watch TV, SAT... in the mainroom and listening to CD in a linkroom at the same time.

I agree with Chris: It`s funny, that you can do this with a twenty years old system, but not with a BS3000, BS4....

Indeed you can connect a BeoGram CD 7000 to your BeoLab 5 through the coaxial inputs, there is one lead looping the digital signal from one speaker to the other, and you will use the infra-red receiver inside the speaker to control the volume.

You should have more info about the various connections in the Lab 5 user/setup guide.

Funny to me that 20 year-old players can connect to BeoLab 5 , and that BeoSounds 4 or 3200 can't..

You'll be pleased to hear that I believe the answer is yes although I can't help you with the setting details. Someone will be along shortly to give the exact info you need (I believe there may be need for some sort of sync. lead between the BL5's but don't quote me)

Does anyone know, if it is possible to connect a CD 7000 digital to BL5 ?

Can the PL sockets be used simultaniosly, for example if the BL5 are in a surround setup connected to a TV ?

(Setup is BV9-BL5-BM7000/CD7000 (oneway), don´t blame me for the 7000, i love these!)
