I've registered M100 serial numbers as low as 135xxxx but your serial number is still nice, probably the start of a production batch.

So it seems there were indeed several variations of the M100 and M100-2.

Has anyone ever compared M100s and M100-2s soundwise? I read on beocentral that the M100-2s had revised drive units. I'm wondering if that changed the sound quality?

Re: Early model Beovox M-100?

Hi Aaron,

I've checked my M100s, all have white labels and here are the serial numbers:

1389010 type 6309 no overload indicator led, with din concection, stands without monogram.

1380018 type 6309 no overload indicator led, with bi-wire concection.

1612009 type 6319 with overlaod indicator led, din connection and the stands are monogrammed

It seems not all M100's serial numbers start with 144.....

I can't seem to find any without the indicator lamps, however I've come across a few M-100s with the LEDs that lack monograms on the stands. In the manual that came with my set of speakers, there is a diagram that shows the indicator lamps but no names are visible on the stand faces. The manual is for a type 6319 (M100-2).

Any ideas regarding the serial number? Does anyone know what the first three digits of the serial number (144) reference? Also, why did B&O feel the need to add an overlaod protection circuit to these speakers when they are rated at 100 wpc to begin with?

Re: Early model Beovox M-100?

The original M100 was a very short lived speaker - seems to have been available for only one year.
Hi Martin,

Here are a few pictures of the M-100s. Do any of these help you determine why I have a pair without the overload protection LED? Could the serial number mean that these were the first pair of M-100s produced?? What do the first three numbers (144) designate? The serial numbers on my S-75s start with 177.....

Thanks for your help,

My father just picked up a near mint pair of M-100s with stands. I'm away at school so he let me know of his find, but I found something interesting when he was describing them to me. There is no overload protection light at the bottom of each speaker. In fact there is no bottom strip across the front whatsoever. The grille cloth meets up with the bottom edge of the cabinet. The serial number is 1440001. Could this be a very early version of the M-100 that did not have the overload circuit protector?

Thanks,
