This is because the connection between the display and the contact rubber is lost very briefly interferring witht the communication between the display and the main processor. When the display re-initialise (e.g. when pressing DOT 7 to enter the menu) the display returns to normal operation.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Thank you so much - for the speaker-part and all the help.&lt;br /&gt;I only broke one of the top hinges - they were a bit tricky to get opened.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;After you have removed the two screws at the bottom of the battery compartment, carefully slip the tool both sides at the top of the battery compartment only allowing the back to move apart a couple of mm (milli-metres) The two clips at the top (shown, but not mark in red in the picture) will effectively act as the hinge for the back. Now slip your tool in at one of the top holding clips and it will start to come apart.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The the two sections come apart be careful with the top two holding clips which are effectively acting as a hinge as you remove the back as they can break off if to much force is used. As you remove the back, the wires for the speaker will need to be unplugged, its just a push fit.&lt;/p&gt;
