I have now had a second failure of the mainboard in the BeoTalk 1200, two in six years may be considered as par for the course these days but I had expected better. From comments that I have received, this unit is fairly sensitive to surges and my second board has gone even though a surge protector was fitted on the power supply and the phone line.

All of our family love this machine and it has been fairly easy to work with so I will be trying to get another replacement board. Pity it is going to cost almost as much as the original unit cost and the insurance company are simply not interested this time round.

Voice announcements are now a requirement in our house.

Regards

Geoff

Re: BeoTalk 1100/1200

gk31ax:

Probably the most un-user friendly bit of B&O kit I own......

Have to have the manual to hand most times I want to do other things other than listen to messages and the clock always loses time......

it can be a bit daunting... but i never had any issues. as an answering machine -it is just that -an answering machine. i did find the 1200 to be a bit more work, and perhaps that is why i prefer the 1100...??? when used for retrieving messages -pretty simple... i think the 1200 got too involved with the concept of groups and announcing the caller -cool features, yes, but i like simplicity of the 1100.

Another little product for my Beo collection I think. Lee, if you're reading I'll go for the 1100 so if you get one in mint condition let me know and I'll have it.
i have had both and they are bullet-proof!

i still prefer the 1100 to the 1200. in the states, 100 - 150usd averages...

setup can initially be akward, but once set... no problema!

Re: BeoTalk 1100/1200

I have a 1200 Simon, and love it.
Had it for about 4 years and never had a problem. Visitors regularly comment on it, and the recorded announcement can be heard upstairs.
You need to have a degree to set it up, and in the event of a power failure, the clock needs resetting (no internal backup battery)
