The CD5500/6500 & 7000's are reallly quite robust and are not prone to laser failure. Look HERE and I think you may find the answer to your problem.

I have a Beosystem 7000 at home, and the CD player has recently started to play CD awkwardly. Sometimes it plays them just fine, but sometime it keeps on skipping songs. I went to the B&O dealer (in Switzerland), and he tells me that it is most likely the laser module that has died, and since the system is over 20 years old, Philips has stopped producing the laser modules and that no stocks are available. In short, the CD player is good for disposal.

I am very disappointed by this matter of fact, and wanted to know if similar things have happened to you, and if you know whether there is a way to fix it or not. The dealer told me that I should move on to MP3 (sic), but when I plug my Ipod to the AUX line, the output is really disappointing compared to the CD player.

Thanks for your feedback
