&lt;p&gt;Only 4 wires plus screen are&amp;nbsp;required for mark 3 cable (left and right audio, voltage reference and mute) plus screening conductor.&amp;nbsp; The fifth wire referred above to is the screen/audio ground.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Gerd is correct, although I would always recommend that if you still have the original mark 1 cables (VERY thin, c.2mm diameter) then when you replace your speakers, this is a good time to go for some new mark 3 cables anyway.&amp;nbsp; The mark 1 cables&amp;nbsp;are not&amp;nbsp;the most robust option and if you are burying your cables in walls or ceilings, mark 2 or 3 cables give you some &amp;quot;future-proofing&amp;quot; if you make changes further down the line.&lt;/p&gt;
