Yes, that is the safe way to do it!

Thank you for your answers!

I will go this path:

1. Power off all devices (It's not easy to unplug the ML as many of them has hidden cables, but most of them goes over the same fuse so I will just take that out.)

2. Cut cable (without unplugging the section, the junction box is on the attic and connects 4 cables, it was not easy to get it right, I will take a walk on the wildside here)

3. Fit a junction box to the loose end (I wasn't planning this, cause I'm out of boxes but I will call my dealer and ask him to send me one)

4. Power on all devices.

Re: ML question

Hi Daniel,

Stefan is correct, usually this is not a problem. Maybe I am too careful, but based on experience, I would always suggest the following advice:-

1) Switch off and unplug ALL Masterlink devices first.

2) Unplug the section of ML cable that you wish to cut from the network at both ends if possible.

3) Cut the cable and then strip back around 80mm of insulation and spread the individual wires out, also removing the foil screens and spreading the cores inside them. This ensures that the wires do not touch at the cut ends, causing faults on your other equipment.

4) Ideally, fit a junction box immediately, otherwise tape over the wires ends to keep them separate and protect the bare ends from water, damage, etc.

5) Plug in the other ML devices and then switch them on and test one at a time to ensure they all work correctly.

This process minimises the risk of ML faults, which can be very tricky to track down!

Best regards,

Steve.

Re: ML question

Thanks Stefan. I will use a junction box later when I connect it again, but until then I will do nothing with it.

I just spoked to a B&O technician. He gave me the same answer. He said the most important thing was to either unplug everything from the ML net or to power them off before the cut.

Re: ML question

Should be no problem at all. I did this the same way several times and everything was ok. I ensured that the cables had no contact to each other.

Maybe you want to connect an ML junction box...(?)

I'm moving one of my link speaker (BL 3500) from the basement to our bed room.

We're about to make a total make over in the room with a fire place (in Swedish called "gillestuga"). After the make over we will move our LX down there as a link TV (and link speaker).

When we renovated the bed room I placed cables in the wall at the place for the BL 3500. This ML cable is already connected to the rest of the ML system, but has until now been unused.

My question is about the ML cable left in the basement. To be able to remove the ML plug from the hole in the wall where the speaker was placed I must cut the cable. No problems with that, because when the TV goes down there I will drill a new hole for the cable and connect it to the plug again.

Can I leave the ML cable cut without the plug remounted until later. Or will it be a problem with a cut cable still connected to the rest of the ML system?
