whatever you do include Cat6 (or even better cat7 which is able to carry HD single as I understand it) in the conduit. Will cost you pennies today but you will be so happy you have done it tomorrow.

True, but when we're talking about an excess 3 m of PowerLink hidden behind a BeoLab 5, then I think some shortening is needed.

Hey, don't forget that "excess cable" behind components can make for easier servicing/access. It may be neat to cable "just right", but, IMHO, it's not practical.

You could but you would need to cut the tails off the end to make sure they don't get caught on anything.

Wiring them yourself is definitely the best way of making sure they're the correct length etc...

I personally hate having excess cable coiled up behind units etc... although I can't really afford to cut down all my cables to the right length as a student.

I want to solder the connectors on myself, to the powerlink and masterlink, so I just need to find the cables for it.

I'm not sure that I can pull the original Mk2 powerlink through the pipes in the floor and walls.

S/PDIF goes from the BeoSound 9000 to the BeoLab 5s (daisy-chained from one to the other).

MasterLink goes between the BeoSound 9000 and the Avant.

PowerLink goes from the Avant to ALL the speakers - regardless of whether you're using S/PDIF or not. The S/PDIF signal only carries information from the CD, no other sources.

For what it's worth, I'd want to use mk2 PowerLink to connect all the speakers (this is necessary with BeoLab 5s anyway).

Hi guys

I have finally started the rebuild of the great big room, all the furniture is packed down and all the B&o stuff is in a safe storage until the rebuild is done.

My question is related to cable connection, I now have the change to hide the wiring in the floor and walls, but as many of you know this maybe the only one chance to do it right.

My setup is for now:

Speaker Front: BL5

Speaker Rear: BL8000 just beside the sofa, 1.5m away from the wall (later on maybe BL3 or BL9 but same connection, maybe a newer MK cable is needed)

Video: Avant 32” in the centre of the two BL5 (and upgrade for BV5, BV7, BV9 is coming up in 2009)

Audio: BS9000 on the wall (can’t decide to keep it here or put it on the floor stand)

I will start milling some pipes in the floor soon, but need to know how the best audio sound mode would be, but still have the chance to use the setup for surround sound. Today I have all 4 speakers connected to the TV, and when I play music from the BS9000 I only use the s/pdif and (sync cable for none B&o player) and then change the option on the BL5. I don’t have connected the master link between the BS9000 and Avant, but this is my plan to do this now once and for all.

Question:

So would this be enough to ensure the best Audio mode for the BL5 together with the BS9000, as long I use the s/pdif and master link cable, then I hope I don’t need to connect the powerlink to the BS9000.

Is’t possible to connect the BL5 and BL8000 to the TV and then only the s/pdif and masterlink between the TV and the BS9000, or should I connect the BL5 to the BS9000 with s/pdif, powerlink and then masterlink to the TV from the BS9000 and then the rear speakers BL8000 to the TV and then still have the surround sound. ?

Does this give and sense!
