The sound improvement on a BeoMaster 5 may be a good reason to buy it, but frankly, with an external soundcard fitted with both digital (for BV7) and analog (for BeoLink) outputs, with 24bit converters, I'm not sure one could hear a difference when playing lossless WMA via digital output for serious listening, and via analog output on a BeoLab 2000...

And at least, I can use my laptop as a real PC with BV7 as the monitor, something BeoMaster 5 can't do, so you eventually end up with 2 boxes under or behind the TV, and 2 sets of cables instead of 1.

But of course what is good for me may no be good for others!

That way the cabling would not be that much of an issue. You just hide the master box somewhere and have the remote floating around.

Personally I don't have a way to add the BS5 to my setup and make it look good. And As yourself I don't want to open walls to hide cables. A Beomaster 5 with a wireless 2 way remote though would be something that would work.

My mindest is probably still trapped in the olden days of tube televisions and wanting to conserve B&O hours on the set in case I ever sell it on or trade in at a later date. I only really want to use the TV for TV channel watching!

I like the BS5 a lot but I have almost finished rennovating my home now so all cabling has already been done and the BS5 was not around, neither did I know about it when I started my project 18 months ago. If I was prepared to start digging channelling and replastering all over again then the BS5 would definitly be the choice.

The difference between BeoPort and the BM/BS5 is simply incomparable.

If you want to listen through your PC soundcard and mini-jack, then fine. Beoport does offer a good value way of doing this and integrating into your B&O system.

I have just relinquished my BC2 and had to use the Beoport and my noisy PC for a couple of months (I know..all your hearts bleed) but I became deeply irritated with the sound and the regular blips in music as the PC tried to keep up with lossless.

The BS5 acts as a hi-fi and the user is simply unaware that you have a PC in your living room. No blowing fans, no illegal beeps, no blips in the music. Just seamless.

Having a BS5, I am still struggling to come to terms with the expense of the thing but the more I use it, the more I wonder what did I ever do before?

I'm still struggling with the point of beosound 5.. if you infact already have beoport.?

Why not connect your beoport and computer up to your beovision and have a beautiful display of itunes cover art/net radio in your living room..

I've recently bought a mac mini connected up to my tv and beoport and it works beautifully. Beoport is all most obsolete now but I do like to see the tracks displayed on the beocentre 2 (when i dont want the tv screen on in pc mode).

Happy to be corrected if ive missed something... I guess you'd buy beosound 5 if you didn't have beoport??

Regards

Every other B&O hifi can, but no Beosound 5.

Beosound 5 is in fact just a LCD screen and a Wheel. There is no intelligence in it so it cannot do anything on its own.
