FWIW, I seriously doubt B&O will be revising the BeoLab 8000. If they were to do such a thing, they would bring an entirely new design...

If you use a tablestand the distance between the table and the bass port is to little.

Result is a booming sound.

Bass ports always need free space!

I know they aren't the same being a 3-way, but this is what a lot of folks seem to think needs to happen to the 8000's. My original thought was that they are really pretty much column speakers in packaging shape with newer technology behind them, thus perhaps giving a clue as to what a revised 8000 could be.

I've only ever found the 7-2 boomy when the position switch isn't set correctly. IMO it's one of B&O's best speakers - a truly phenomenal performer.

The BeoLab 8000 and BeoLab 7-2 aren't really alike in their basic design, regardless of the duality of the 7-2 as a stereo speaker. The 7-2 is a three-way design (woofers, midrange drivers and tweeters) with three seperate amplifiers. Admittedly they are similar in that they're bass-reflex/ported, but this is quite a common design.

Regarding recent discussions about reworking the BL8000 to have ICE power amps and better drivers, it seems like that would give you something like the 7-2 speaker, right? I know the 7-2 has both channels but if you cut it in half and turned them vertically, you would have something close to what people are suggesting. My idea is not to take a saw to 7-2's but to ask how the sound quality compares between these speakers.
