The 5500 is the better of the two - it also has lots and lots of connections which is very useful in this time of MP3 players and computers. Have a couple myself!

I would consider the 5500 system in terms of specs. BC9300 is in fact a BC2500/Ouverture in flat design. Especially if you want to use the tape, it is inferior to the previous systems. BC9500 would be a better option in this respect. In terms of price, I would look at EUR 500-700, depending on condition.

And to add, I would always have the 9500 which is better specified and also 2 way. In fact i bought a 9500 when new and have had one on and off ever since. A friend has it at present. Wonderful machine!

Price depends on condition - Lifestyle have one up for £725 which will be at the top end of prices paid - but will come with warranty that it works! I would suggest looking at around £500+. They will run Beolab 8000s as they have Powerlink sockets as detailed on the product page.

But - what should I be paying for a unit like this? I do love the appearance of it! And what are the speakers like? They look rather big. Would the BC run beolab 8000?

I agree. The 9300 actually takes up a far amount of space! The 9300 is the last of the series, despite the nomenclature, and is essentially a 9500 box with the innards of a 2500. These are very user friendly systems and have the big advantage over the stack system that close up operation is very comprehensive.

The problem with all of these systems is that a quarter of the space is dedicated to the cassette player which is rapidly becoming an obsolete format. A shame, as this is a useful recording medium. In the case of the stack system, one can simply leave out the cassette player. Maybe there is a role for someone to integrate an MP3 player under the sliding flap!

in the states, prob 500 -> 800 for the bc alone depending on condition. less for one need in work.

i have one and enjoy it very much, but i would not classify it as "small" having a stack system (5000) also.

the footprint of the bc9x00 is much greater than the "stacks" unless you have them spread out. the only dimension that might be greater on the stacks is the depth, front to back. in fact, just last night i was oggling at the massiveness of it!

Hi. I've got the chance to buy a beocenter 9300 and a pair of RL speakers (type 6521 I'm told). What sort of money ought I to be thinking of? Is it a well regarded system? I'm presently running a 5500 system but the 9300 looks to be smaller and neater - less space taken up!
