Bumping an old thread.

Just got a XBOX 360. Works well with my LX 5500 from 1991 in mode "PAL 50", but some games demands "PAL 60". The problems is that in this mode the picture is black and white. Is there any ways to get colour, except the obvious one (get a newer TV)?

Update, problem solved!

Ordered a RGB cable and it did the trick!

This means two things:

1. LX5500 handles RGB

2. Still no need for new telly

i dont have a dvd player at the mo, i play my movies on pc. will look into getting one soon but i think that dvd will work fine. think i need to get a new tv instead. shame tho its not a bad tv

Does your tv play dvd in colour,?!,try it with a dvd player??!

Hi:

I would guess that it won't play at 50hz either hence the orange tinge or whatever. It almost certainly won't play at 60 hz!

The only thing I can suggest is changing the scart adaptor, I had one with more teeth than necessary and for some reason that was causing it not to register properly with one of my televisions.

Although the Hz thing makes more sense.

the xbox lead has the normal games console scart end, the 3 plugs that go into the small scart adapter or scart converter (didnt know it was called that)

i have freeview in and works fine. xbox is still the same if freeview is there or not. it has to be a setting on tv i cant find or tv just wont suport 60hz games. my guess it doesnt support it. i have an old xbox that the drive went on but starts up fine and the same thing, swithes from b&w to day glo colour. makes games abit more intresting tho lol

Right OK, so your Xbox has a moulded scart connector that connects to the TV as opposed to phono plugs which plug into the scart convertor?

Could you provide a pic of what you have

One other thing, do you have anything else connected to the TV through the other scart namely Freeview/DVD/Cable?

hi Graham

i have tried plugging it into av1 & av2 on the back of tv as it doesnt have the other red, yellow and white plugs. i also have 2 leads for xbox both ones supplied with xbox. one is the standard scart and the other is the newer scart with hd plugs aswell as normal scart plugs. both have the same prob :(

Hi:

Are you connecting the xbox to the TV via a scart to composite convertor - ie. do you plug a scart adaptor into the scart socket of the television and then plug red, yellow and white connectors into this, which then runs to the xbox?
If so, is this the one that was supplied with the xbox?

I have had simillar problems, cannot remember why, but I eventually sorted them out. I will try to help you rectify the problems you are having.

i have tried to mess around with settings on tv but cannot work it out at all. i havent got an owners manual and as far as i can see you have to pay to get one. i dont realy want to pay for one if in the end it wont support anything but pal.

im normaly quite clued up on how to work a remote but this one beats me.

I'm pretty sure the LX 5500 can switch between Pal, Secam and Ntsc

the game will only run on 60hz so i guess tv only supports 50hz. just thought it strange xbox starts up with day glo orange on the menu screen. so has some form of colour.

many years ago i had an ntsc dreamcast and had to get a converter to play it on the tv i had at the time as it was a pal tv. without it the dreamcast would only have black and white and never any other colour let alone the day glo

Is the game region free, NTSC or PAL ? When you play NTSC games on a PAL tv you will see only black and white.

The AV button has nothing to do with it, that is just used for swapping sound between an audio system and a video system.
I'm sure someone will be along soon who has experience with an LX5500 and an Xbox.

hi all

i have just been given a bang&olufsen beovision lx5500, i have no manual with it but when i press AV nothing happens but it finds xbox on V.TAPE but it plays in black&white or very bright orange to purple. does this model tv support pal 60hz or just 50. i thought it would not show any colour at all if it didnt support 60hz. i know its not xbox as it works fine on a friends tv but only in the back scart not the front 3 plug (red,white and yellow) as that goes from colour to black&white every second would love some help as i have been on google far to long now lol
