This is a bit odd. I have not been able to get the 3G iPhone to output video through component cables but my 6th Gen 80GB works fine. How were you able to output video through the iPhone? I heard that you couldn't get it to output. Thanks.

I hadn't heard that. I'm using the original iPhone as well as the 3G iPhone to output to video. The iPods I'm using are the last generation Nanos (not the current generation). All these devices work well for me. I've come to see the iPhone as incredibly versatile when it comes to distributing video around houses, vacation houses, vehicles, etc. In fact, it's the ultimate kid pacifyer on long trips. We're going to Disney World next month and my kids will be making good use of the iPhones on planes.

i am confused... i thought the 6th gen ipod and all later apple mobile devices were locked from video output on 3rd party devices?

I'm not sure I'm familiar with the "zektor switch", but using Apple's cords that output component or composite video out of the iPhone, I'm pretty impressed with the video that I get (usually watching on a 32" BV8 or a 50" Samsung). At home, I use an Apple TV connected to each individual TV and I'm impressed with the picture on the B&O TV - it seems better than that on my other TVs and I attribute this (maybe wrongly) to upscaling inherent to the B&O TVs.

We have a couple of places that we routinely vacation, and I'd contemplated hooking an Apple TV up to these "away" TVs. However, I've found the iPhone a very suitable replacement. On our "away" TVs, I use Apple's aforementioned iPod / iPhone video cables as well as a small dock. It works great. I was at the beach a few weeks ago (not our place, a friends) and watched a movie from my iPhone on a very large plasma (had to be 60"). The quality was suprisingly good - about DVD level on a TV like that. The interesting thing was that the HD satellite feed coming in to the condo units had been so split up that the iPhone outperformed the satellite's feeds despite the fact that they were technically 1080i (or whatever HD output).

Also, just as an aside, if you have small kids and a LCD system in your car, the iPhone can connect to the Aux input of your in-car LCD / DVD system and negate the need to carry physical media around. I've found this to be so very convenient.

My iPod is a 6th Gen and works. I am thinking about getting an apple TV but I need to update my software on my BeoSystem 1 and they quoted me at $550, ouch!!!! I still might get the Apple TV!

How well do Apple TV's it work with B&O?

if you can locate a fifth generation ipod -the release before they started calling them "classic" it will work. probably not too expensive on ebay, etc...

of course you could also go for an apple tv...

Ipod is working correctly but the iPhone doesn't support video out so that is why no video shows up. Very dissapointed but that's apple for you...

I have an iPhone hooked up through component cables (zektor switch HDS4 with a BeoSystem 1) but I am only getting audio when playing movies/tv shows (through BV4-42). The screen remains black and I am wondering if anyone has had this setup to play movies from iPod/iPhone using A/V component cable. Thanks!
